Subject: What Occupation Name to use on Immigration Form?
I am in the process of applying for Canadian Immigration under the Skilled Worker category.

I am a Computer Programmer/Systems Analyst. Do the Immigration officials looks for specific keywords in the Job Title that matches the list of Occupations in demand in Canada?

If so, what is the appropriate Job Title I should use in my forms please?

Hi,

IT jobs fall into several CIC recognized titles. you can check out this site to see for yourself which fits you well.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-2-1.html

However, I think you can fall in the following NOC codes: 2174 or 2173 or 2171. Just check out the site to see which category you fit.

goodluck

Thanks - just out of interest in the National Occupation Classification List (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-2-1.html)

do the Code A, B, C etc have any relevance? ie is there a preference or priority between the codes listed? in other words, for exampe, is it preferable to call myself a software programmer as compared to a computer systems analyst?

Hi..here is the site for the instructions:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-2.html

I guess the Code A, Code B you are saying is the alphabetical arrangement of the job titles. The job skill levels accepted by CIC are only 0, A & B.

I am not an expert but I believe there is no preferrence whether your job is in Skill level 0 or A&B. Your experience should be within the 10 years prior to your application. If your job skill is not in Skill 0 or A&B, your application might be refused.

I am not so sure though if you can put 2 NOC codes for your position. You would have to ask that question in this forum I guess...somebody might know about it.

goodluk.
