Subject: Supponsoring--Refugee Claim |

Hello,
I am a Canadian citizen and supposoring my father and application is in process. I sent my
application last summer and might take another 1-2 years to get him into Canada as an
supponsored immigrant.
Now, my father is visiting me here in canada. He arrived last weekend. He´s got a 3 months
tourist visa.
His life might be in danger when he returns to his country.
Can he apply for refugee status in Canada? OR Can he stay here in Canada with me until my
application for supposorhsip is finalized?
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Mitch

(in reply to: Supponsoring--Refugee Claim) Why would his life be in danger?

(in reply to: Supponsoring--Refugee Claim) This idea is not going very well... You will have to come up with a more convincing idea... If he stays here, he will become illegal and hence lose his petition for PR. On the other hand, if he is fully dependent on you for food, clothes, shelter and medical help, he can stay illegally and hang out in Canada. I would suggest that you let him become illegal alien...

(in reply to: Supponsoring--Refugee Claim) Mitch,
You will have to prove that his life is in danger... I mean, real proof.
If he feels his life is in danger, and can provide no proof, it might work for a while, but they will send him home if they feel the claim is false.
CIC has heard this story before. If you are telling the truth (and I have no reason to not believe you), then you better come up with some evidence. If they feel you are not being honest, your father may end up out of Canada for good.
Good luck,
Dave
