I am going to Vancouver Island, city Duncan. 50000 population and hard to fins anything on website for sort term rent.
Lina suggest to take mortgage, but I don´t want do it because I am not sure if I will like this place. I know, it is very inconvenient to pay rent but this is very short term responsibility and I am ready for.
So, come again, how to find appartment for rent in city Duncan?

Tatyana,

you might want to consider staying in a motel for the first couple days .. till you visit the city and roam around...and I´m pretty sure you might be able to find something...or at least rent a room in a house or something...don´t be worry about that...you will definitely find something..and usually people in small cities are very friendly...they will be able to help you...

You may want to try looking for some backpackers place initially so that you can get yourself settled.

Those places are usually cheap and they run for about $25/day compared to the hotels which starts from around $65 plus Taxes. Taxes are high (15%)

If you can make a contact with someone in Canada before you can move it its even better...

There are agencies that work along this line. Basically helping new immigrants move and settle in the area... but mostly its in the big cities...

Good luck with you move.

Hey Tania if your paperwork is all done and you have a vehicle, just drive into Canada and look for places once you are inside. I can understand that being a lady and with family, you may feel apprehensive but it is a lot easier than it appears. Also, Canada is much safer than US so you don´t have to be as much freaked out as you might be moving from one place to another in the US. I didn´t know anyone before landing but I drive a nice truck and have enough space to sleep in it! I slept in the truck for two days before landing a hostel like place. Suddenly, I was with a whole lota Canadians and European Adventurers... and it was fun as hell... I hauled the Europeans around Maritime checking out places and teasing those fellers to stare at things, cuzz they were to leave Canada soon but I am here to stay! Anyways, I bought a small bit of ranch-land since but still drive to the Hostel to meet with new folks and all that. I am in Atlantic Canada so I couldn´t help ya much (my guess is that you are heading to the Westcoast). Good luck... You maybe right in that a lot of Asians seem to cling to each other so they usually develop contacts before arriving in Canada, and once they arrive, they still stay together (somewhat like the Black people in the US). American blacks developed habits of clinging together because of slavery but the Asians do it, in my belief, a certain innate slave-mindedness.

Thank´s guys!
I did find some short term place to stay. If I will be on my own, I won;t be even worry, but since we have our son with us we have to find good place to stay.
Children don´t responsible for parental´s choices.
We should make them feel safe and comfortable.
Good luck to all.
Tatyana
