Subject: to indian and pakistani expats in canada
  Hi!
For the last one week or so we have been reading a lot of negativity about Canada on the different immigration discussion forums. Skilled professionals who have immigrated to Canada are crying and pointing out different problems which they have encountered there, like there are no jobs in their field , they say that even the odd job are very hard to get in the name of Canadian experience, there is racism and employers do not give equal chance to the immigrants especially coloured ones.So many highly educated ones like PhDs ,doctors and engineers and scientists have said their move to Canada has destroyed their future, and even after living many years in Canada they could not establish themselves.
This is very sad situation for aspirant immigrnats.I have´nt heard even a single success story from any immigrant in these forums.Are these forums only meant for the negative aspects of Canada or the situation is really so in Canada. This is my question to people already in Canada, especially to Pakistani and Indian expats.Let me summarize my questions again;
1- is it very difficult/impossible to get a job in one´s own field
2- is it difficult to get an odd job
3- do employers discriminate
4- is racism widely prevalent
5- is it difficult to survive(for Indians and Pakistanis)
I request you to give your comments from your own personal experience.

Its not all racism against east Indians. Sometimes we just can´t hire you if the job requires that other people can understand your english. Its not that you have bad english skills but, alot of the time people just don´t understand you because you simply speak way to fast. I´m being very honest, slow way the fuck down when you are speaking english to someone who´s first language is english and we´ll all get along just fine.

Only reason I say this is to help you people understand some of the reasons racism exists. I´m not being sarcastic at all, but take it how ever you want.

Please reconsider (in reply to: to indian and pakistani expats in canada)
I have worked with pakistanis and indians and even chinese .... they have a different accent ... but as time goes by it becomes better and more understandable your ear adapts to there accent ... but you have to take this into account .... try learning there language ..... i bet you´ll have a hard time ... remember bilinguals knows two languages ... they gave there time and money to learn the other language so it is wrong for people to be discriminated for there language ..

one more thing if you are having a hard time ... write it down or email them .. you will be surprised at how good they are in English ..

Great! looks like you agree with me, as I´m not being discriminative either.

Like I said, I´m sure there english is really good, it just that you can´t speak it at 100 miles an hour with an accent because its to hard to understand. Just slow down so that english only people understand. I can´t tell you how many times some East Indian telemarketer has called me and I can´t understand a damn word because he/she is talking way to fast. But I know they can write just fine.

How do I know all this? because I´ve just described half of my employees and also my own lovely Wife, believe me that I´m NOT discriminating at all, I´m just telling it how it really is.

Hi ,
This message is not to brag about myslef or canada .
I have been here for 3 yrs and survived corporate culture .During this time I have moved from being a simple consultant to middle management .

Here are answer to your question based on my limited knowledge :
1- is it very difficult/impossible to get a job in one?s own field
Ans : Yes, But not Impossible takes decent planning and determination
2- is it difficult to get an odd job
Ans : NO .
3- do employers discriminate
Ans : Yes, However this discrimination is based on adaptability to Environment and not race
4- is racism widely prevalent
Ans : NO
5- is it difficult to survive(for Indians and Pakistanis)
Ans : Yes ,Survival has its own definition for everybody but one can survive if he/she wants to.

Last but not the least, you have to take calculated risk to succeed.

Thanks

Hi there
I didn´t noticed a lot of bad things from English side, but it is another culture, you know...
I want to share with you about thing what has made my life easier here. Vippie - app lets me call for free to US and Canada, but the most attractive thing is that i can call landline in India for 0,01$ per minute.

I really hope it will help you too:)
