Subject: CIC has mixed up my file with someone else's file
I came to Canada 16 months back as an international student studying at George Brown College. I am really frustrated with the way CIC (Canadian Immigration) has been dealing with my file right from the time I entered Canada. I have never received a single document (study permit, off-campus work permit & now Post graduation work permit) with all the correct information on it and having to wait for longer than expected (sometimes for more than 4 months when the normal processing time is 10-15 days) to get the corrected documents again.

I have always had an issue with my Client ID because CIC has mixed up my file with someone else´s file. I have brought this to the notice of the CIC officials and I am always assured that the issue has been rectified but I do not see it. The latest document i.e my Post Graduation Work Permit again has the wrong Client ID on it and because of the mix-up of my file even my Passport No. and address is wrong. I emailed & even called CIC regarding this a number of times and after having to wait for more than a month I get a document from them with just the address updated and incorrect Client Id and passport No. This is the case almost everytime with all my documents.

This is giving me tremendous stress and I cannot concentrate on other things. I recently had to delay the start date of a job that I was offered because my SIN card has expired and I cannot renew it as the Work Permit that I have received has the incorrect information and I have to wait for it to be rectified before applying for renewal of my SIN card.

I do not see any option and being an international student do not know who to approach about this. I am afraid that because of this I can face problems when I apply for my PR for no fault of mine. Please suggest. Thanks.

@ Claude

WHO TO APPROACH?????

I waited for another to reply but NO one gave you any suggestions.

Well trying to DIY resolve the problem yourself has not worked because you do not understand how CIC works.

When you have a problem with CBSA or CIC knowing who to approach is extremely necessary. Major Law Firms could care less because they can´t make any money from you to make their time spent worthwhile.

Other Lawyers and Consultants may take your money and accomplish nothing.

It is rare that one person has two UCI#´s Client ID´s but it does happen and then they need to be merged.

Your initial Study Permit should have been issued at your POE Port of Entry and you had an obligation to confirm the info on it was correct.

You dealing with the bottom level people seems to not resolved anything. If this bothers you so much get your wallet out and seek out a quality authorized adviser who has proven he/she can resolve these type of issues.

To All

Some people seeking assistance who can´t speak English or French get taken, normally by persons in their own ethnic group.

I find it difficult to accept that persons coming to Canada from most refugee producing countries have to travel through one, two or three other countries before getting here are real refugees.

Just imagine the government is looking for you and you are fearing persecution from your government so you go to the airport show your identity document that has a Canadian visitor visa in it and you fly to Canada.

Now when you applied for a visitor visa did you seek the protection of the Canadian government at that time???

I strongly believe that if one is in fear of risk to their life they run or walk across the border at night to the next country to escape harm.

Stavrimacoku - Those the plan in advance have few problems, you had to know in advance of coming to Canada to make your refugee claim you would need language assistance due to your language issues. You could of looked up ethnic social groups in the city you were going to make your claim.

You should have known better that completing a PIF Personal Information Form and applying for a work permit after submitting your PIF to the IRB would cost more than $500.00

Saying that guy was (Just Like Roy)really! Sometimes I work for free but when I charge it is more than $500.00 Main difference is I win.
