Subject: Advice for PR
  Hi,

The background:
My common-law partner and our 2 years old son are Canadian Citizens.
I am Chilean citizen and we have lived around 4 years together in Chile.
This week I and my company are applying for a work permit of 3 years, so I can spend 30% of my time in Canada, working for my company with our Canadian clients. I still will be based on Chile living here with all my family.
I have a Chilean engineering degree. And work experience as a consultant in Mining in Chile,Peru,Australia, US and now will have experience in Canada...

Question:
In parallel, my family and I would like to move to Canada soon and I would like to get a PR/Sponsorship to live in Ontario.
We want to live in Chile until I can get a PR.
We don´t want to be apart during the application process.

1) What is the best strategy? what to do? We want to do things right and legal.
2) Is it difficult for my Canadian partner to sponsor me while we live in Chile?
3) I or my Canadian partner will need a job/job offer in canada?
4) Can I get a PR, and then move to Canada to look for a job?
5) Is my case difficult or do we have good chances?
6) How much time would I take?
7) Should I look for some kind of lawer/consultant?

Your advice is very vauluable, Thank you!

Your partner can sponsor you from abroad. All of you can stay outside of Canada until a decision is made on your application. You are looking at 3 years waiting time in order to obtain your immigrant visa to move to Canada.

Once you are a PR you can move to Canada, look for a job if you already don´t have one and start a new life.

All the information that you required is here:

You are saying the processing time for the PR is three year? are you sure? I was expecting 1 year...

Someone else has a different opinion or more advice?

Where did you get 1 year from?
The Canadian Embassy in Santiago has an estimated timeline for spousal sponsorship of 14 months plus the sponsorship its self which is takes place in Ontario.

If it is processed really fast is a minimum of 17 months. Reality is anywhere between 1.5-3 years.
