| Subject: what part of immigration for spouse comes first, |

i am sponsoring my wife to live with me in montreal, she is an american.
we recently found out in the midst of paperwork that we also have to be approved by quebec since that is where we live.
do we first send applications to quebec then procede with canada immigration or vice versa,
i keep getting different answers from the offices i call.
i just want to make sure everything is taken care of properly so my wife can live here as soon as she can, and i know it is a long process.

If you legally reside in Montreal, then you´ve got to start with the Quebec immigration procedure:

that is the first I have ever heard that you MUST start with Quebec selection. Why?

No. You have to begin the process like any spouse sponsorship:
1.Submit a sponsorship application to the Government of Canada. Send your papers to Mississauga, Ontario (for family members living outside Canada), or the CPC in Vegreville, Alberta (for family members living inside Canada).
2.If you are approved as a sponsor, the permanent residence application is sent to the appropriate Canadian visa office and/or a copy or your permanent residence application is sent to Quebec Immigration (MICC) in order to issue the "Quebec Selection Certificate" (you are submitting an undertaking application to the Government of Québec, you have to pay extra CAD$ 250 for this step)
