Subject: COPR Entry Extension
  Hi,

I´ve got my PR application approved (for me & my family) and visa & COPR issued last September. Now I understand that I´m supposed to enter Canada within one year from when the Medicals were done. However, due to certain problems, I´m not able to make the trip to Canada within that time frame. What are my options? Can I get an extension so that I can come in a few months later? Do I need to reapply? If I can make the trip, what´s the minimum time I need to be in the country to complete the formalities, before I can leave again.
Appreciate any help as we´ve waited over 3 years for the visa & approvals to come thru and now its really disappointing that we can´t make it in time at the final step!

Thanks
Sumen

Hi Sumen,

For formalities, you have to stay until you receive your PR card in your hand so that you can come back easily whenever you are able to.

Visit cic.gc.ca for the processing time for Initial PR card.

Not true.

You don´t have to stay until you receive your PR card, technically you can enter, land and go home 10 minutes later. But you are going to need a travel document in order to return to Canada (It looks like a one entry visitor´s visa) You may apply for one from your local Canadian Embassy.

You cannot extend your Immigrant visa or your CORP, you either land before expires or let it expire and re-apply again (which is a bad idea BTW). Usually the visa expires when your medicals do but follow the expiration date in the visa and CORP not the date in your medicals.

Planning is everything, up to you.

Thanks Nisha, DocD,

Appreciate your responses.
From what I gather then, the problem is only re-entry.
Just to be clear, what are the absolute minimum procedures I need to accomplish after landing, before I can leave? If those can be done in a day or two, I could enter and leave a couple of days later.

If the collection of the PR card is the main issue in order to re-enter later, I could get someone trusted (a relative, whose house I will be staying at in Canada and whose address I´d use to receive the PR card) to carry my PR card when it arrives & hand it to me. Then I shouldn´t have a problem, correct?

Please confirm if my understanding is correct & thanks for your help again.

cheers

@ Sumen,

You understand it correctly.

@ DocD,

Please read with patience, I said, you should stay until you receive your PR card so that you can come back easily (Reentry wont be a problem if you have your PR card).

Nisha,

You should go back and read your own post again with patience! You said

" For formalities, you have to stay until you receive your PR card."

Now thats not " you should stay until you receive your PR."

Multiple PRs (in reply to: COPR Entry Extension)
Hi,

Can I also check... I am currently a PR in Singapore. What happens when I enter Canada? DO I need to surrender my Singapore PR in order to get my Canada PR or can I keep both - Singapore & Canada?

TIA
