Subject: Lost PR card
My husband lost his pr card along with his wallet in august. In september he sent in the documents requesting for a replacement card. Apparently there has been some sort glitch in their system there and it takes 100 plus days to open a letter. We just got a notice requesting for additional proof of identity which is fine but what makes me nervous is that we are scheduled to leave the country in June for work and with this 100 days to open a letter in all likelihood he won´t have his new pr card in time. Is there a way to expedite the process? Could he apply for a visitors visa to Canada to enable him to return (we will only be gone a couple weeks) Any advice would be appreciated

No he doesn´t need to apply for a visitors visa.

He has two choices:

1- He can try to apply for a PR card on an urgent basis and try to expedite it.

2- In the event that his card doesn´t arrived in time, he can contact the local Canadian Embassy or High Comission in the country he is visiting and apply for temporary travel document which is similar to a single entry visa which will allow him to board the airplane and once he reaches the POE he will be fine. In that case, tell him to bring with him, enough prove of indentity and his confirmation of permanent resident form. (The blue copy)

Thanks for the advice. After trying for three days I finally got through to CIC and they said something similiar. The only struggle is that we are going to Haiti so I don´t think we can rely on the administrative processes there acting as they normally would. I suppose if we don´t have the card back in time we will have to not go
