Subject: Sponsoring when Separated
Hi: I am sponsoring my Mother. I am legally separated but the Forms, specially the Financial Information IMM 1283 is asking all the time about Spouse information. She is not co-signing of course.

I wonder if I have to enter all her information including salary as expected on Page 5 of this Form.

Thanks,

Raul

the point of the question is to determine if your combined household income meets the minimum requirement. If you and your wife are separated - how would this apply?

tell them the truth - at this moment you are separated and that the file must be processed on your income alone.

Thank you for your reply Sharon. I do meet the requirements with only 1 income.

I have one more question. In page one of the same form (IMM 1283) is asking me : Total number of persons for the purpose of determining your minimum necessary income.

I am not including my wife because she doesn´t live with me and I am not responsible for her. IF I am sponsoring only my Mom, the total number of persons is 2 ?

I am having hard time with the terms "Separated" and "Spouse". She is legally my spouse, but we are legally separated and do not live under the same household.

Thanks,

Raul

hi there, Since your wife is sepearated you don´t need show anything on behalf of her. Just write the CIC as Sharon and you will be fine. Wish you the best of luck.
