Subject: Will I loose my residency status? |

Hello,
I was on student visa from Sept 2003 – June 2006. Got my PR in June 2006, and I was on PR status in Canada between July 2006 – August 2007. Starting September 2007, I had to move to the US for job reasons, and have been living in the US since then. The question I have is – do I qualify to apply for my PR renewal based on my stay in Canada.
Appreciate your input.
Thanks!

(in reply to: Will I loose my residency status?) Do the simple Math; if you physically stayed or will stay in Canada at least 2 years out of the 5 years begining from the day of your landing then you should be fine.

(in reply to: Will I loose my residency status?) Hi DC_RC,
Thanks for your input.
Though I stayed just 1 year (aprox.) after landing, I am not sure of how my stay in Canada on student visa (3yrs.) would be factored in calculating for the renewal requirement.
Thanks again!

(in reply to: Will I loose my residency status?) The time you spent in Canada before getting PR would have added one year if you remained, after getting the PR, toward obtaining the citizenship; as it is now, that time equals ZERO toward PR renewal. I suggest you file for green card and forget about Canada. Not much is happening here anyways. Good luck.
