Subject: File transfer from Egypt
I applied for the canadian Immigration (skilled worker class) february 2007. (they just sent me an email on November 2008 asking me if I will continue the process or need a refund).
No documents have been asked from me to send yet.

I am a cardiologist in Egypt (Job included in NOC) and working on a work permit as a fellow of cardiology in Ottawa (for the next 2 years).

Can I ask for file transfer from Cairo/Egypt? will this complicate things after 2.5 years of waiting
OR I should apply again from the start? and where will I apply from (canada itself or USA)!!

If someone have an experience in such a case .. please help me (I will be grateful).

Thanks in Advance

I don´t have experience myself but I know a friend who did it.

He is Syrian and living in the US (a PhD student). He applied for the immigration while in Syria. After five years (!!!!!) and while in the US, they sent a letter requesting to update his documents. The letter was sent to his address in Syria and was received by his family.

He wrote to the CIC asking to transfer his file from Syria to the immigration regional center (which is in Buffalo, USA). He put convincing reasons for the transfer, such as:

- Unable to interrupt the study to conduct any interview (if granted) in Syria or to send his passports to the Embassy of Canada in Syria (if requested).

He explained that he is on a student visa in the US. Leaving the US will cause interruption of his study because he has to renew his student visa from the US Embassy in Syria and such a thing will take a very long time. Moreover, since he is residing in the US, he won´t be able to send his passport for stamping. He enclosed copies of all the supporting documents.

For the above reasons, they agreed. The transfer process took - as I remember- about six months. He sent the updated documents to the center in Buffalo and the passport request letter received very shortly after that.

I knew the details of this because he was my room-mate and helped him in writing the letter of transfer request :-)

I don´t know how is the situation in Egypt but I think it should be similar but may be longer time required because of the high volume. If you are in intense need for the transfer, write a letter with strong/convinving reasons. I recommend that you keep your file as it is to avoid loss/delay.. Any letter fromn the CIC can be received by your family in Egypt (while you are in Canada). Follow up your file from Canada.

You also have another option. Since you are a fellow in Cardiology for two years and half, you will be qualified for the category of Canadian experience. You can apply on this category once you are done..but I recommend to wait for your current file.

One more thing-
The advice I always give to all physicians coming to Canada is that the road is long (unless trained in the US or UK..I am trained in the former). To practice as a specialist, You have to pass the exams of Medical Council of Canada www.mcc.ca and also clear the exam of Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Only the specialty training in the US or UK recognized (with other few countries...check the royal college site..none of the middle eastern countries is included.. )...otherwise you have to join a residency training in Canada (very hard for foriegn medical graduates) or US and start from beginning...What I did is that I went to the States and became American Board certified and then I found it easy to practice here in Canada. Keep this in your mind while trying to settle in Canada as an immigrant.

This is just my opinion. Others might give you more advices. Best wishes.
