Hi Roy,

I am gettin´ ready!!!!! I will be departing this weekend, probably on Saturday. I will be heading down to Banff for a few days, then I will be going fishing to Martin Lake, head down to Montana to visit a buddy of mine and come back to Canada through Washington, spend a few days in Vancouver and then go back to the Okanagan. Then I will be driving to shuswap lake.

I can´t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Bill

Bill, Roy, ..or any...

Does any of you have experience of driving to Banff from Toronto? How is the road condition? I know the highway is not divided I class. How about the accomodations within the way?

Banff to Toronto... you know how far that is? 6 days? Trans Canada should have reasonable accomodations. check CAA.com

I lied. the CAA site sucks. but go to the CAA office. they will create a trip tik for you which is a detailed map. rumour has it is a 36 hour car trip. They can give you a list of hotels or motels along the way and they rate them.

to be honest it is a trip every Canadian should make - one end of the country to the other but most of us never do it.

Vancouver to Banff is 13 hours - no stops!

Overall drive is not bad, it is a long drive though. There are plenty of motels and hotels in every town, even the little towns have accomodations available.

If you are planning on staying in Banff during the summer, you should check if accomodations are available, it gets pretty busy during the spring/summer season. Most of the hotels are already booked.
You might be able to find a place to stay in Calgary, which is only about an hourish from Banff.

I drove from Emerson (Manitoba border crossing) to Fort Mc once and wasn´t too bad.

Driving in Saskatchewan is like driving with a picture on your windshield, the scenary doesn´t change for hours, other than that is a good drive.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks for the info guys.

We enjoy cross country driving. However, 36 hours net driving time is something not very encouraging, especially when you have a small dog. Infact I wasn´t aware at all about the distance.

Though good to know that Calgary is so close.

Is the landscape in the prairies like Nebraska or Wyoming? So far I got the most boring drive in Nebraska. Wyoming at least has some ups/downs.
