Subject: Medical Inadmissibility? (suicidal Ideation)
  Dear all,

Two weeks ago I went to a doctor and revealed that I had suicidal thoughts (but not intention) because of the stress from work. I wonder, if you or anyone knows, that it will adversely affect my Canadian immigration.

If you have any suggestions to my case there would be great!

Thanks so much again!

Special Mary

Severe suicidal ideation usually results from severe depression and it usually requires immediate action such as hospital admission. They are considered "severe" if the ideation interferes with your daily acitivities and associated with previous suicidal attempts otherwise, suicidal thoughts are normal and can occur in any person due to life stresses.

If your doc documented suicidal ideation, s/he has to show the management s/he did and the follow up plan.

If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts due to stress, you should really re-consider relocation. Coming to a new country to start a new life is not easy and may compound your stress. The isolation and struggle to re-establish yourself and your career will not be easy. On the issue of medical inadmissibility, you should be fine. I don´t think CIC has a way to quantify excess demand based on suicidal intention.

Thanks for your reply. The stress that I had was not due to me being in a new country.

I checked the CIHI website (government website), and found that attempted suicide costs Canada around $10000 per person, while the cost of health for an average Canadian is only aound $3000. Would that qualify for excessive demand, due to the fact that the cost for dealing with attempted suicide is higher than the health cost for an average Canadian? On the other hand, attempted suicide differ from suicidal ideation.
