Subject: Police Clearance from India | Non-Resident Indian
I am a non-resident Indian residing in the USA on L1 visa. I am applying for PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) to Consulate General of India, Houston required for ´Application of Permanent Residence´ with Canada.
I have read the instructions and documents on the website of CGI, Houston http://www.cgihouston.org/miscattestation.html#gl18. I have a Question.

1) I have a passport issued at New Delhi, India.
Do I need to necessarily send the original passport along-with the completed "Miscellaneous Service Form" at the time of application submission
OR
Since this service will be provided after obtaining confirmation / clearance from the original Passport Issuing Authority (PIA), can I send the original passport once I am contacted by CGI after confirmation has been obtained from concerned PIA.

The reason I am asking this is because my passport is presently with Canadian Consulate of Los Angeles for a temporary resident Canadian Visa and I would be receiving the same after a month. If I can send in the PCC applicaion without the original passport now and CGI can start the processing, this would save me time as I have to apply soon for Application of Permanent Residence wih Canada because I have already received the PCC from FBI, USA which would otherwise expire in 3 months time.

If you haven´t already, try contacting CGI-Houston. They may accept notarized copy of passport to start processing and let you know to mail in the passport to stamp PCC in a couple of weeks.

Getting passport pages copy notarized will cost you a lot more than the application fee for PCC!

Go to your bank and they will normally notarize free of cost. When I requested for PCC, I didn´t send passport along. When CGI confirmed - they are ready for PCC then I sent my passport and got both in return in one week time.

I would apply for PCC at delhi,If i were you. It would be a lot quicker.

Fax an authorization letter with a copy of the passport and the reason why you need the PCC.(assuming you have someone in Delhi)

The PCC from delhi (India) would be for your spouse I believe. I would say contact the Indian Consulate in the country where your husband is presently residing and ask them about the procedure. There might be a provision to apply to the Indian consulate in the resident country to obtain a PCC from Delhi(India).
