hello!
I enter Canada last February 18, 2007 and stayed there for a year and went home here in the Philippines last February 21,2008 due to circumstances that cannot be controlled and was supposed to be back in Canada last April 26 but was not able to fly because I was admitted in the hospital twice.
Now my question is: I have heard from my Canadian husband that am allowed to stay out of Canada for more 6 months but I cant take the flight due to my being sick. My permanent residence card will expire by 2012 and it has not been 2 years away from Canada and I been there for a year. Please help me which is the truth.... Its puzzling me and I dont know what to do.. Please help

You have to stay 730 days out of 5 years to maintain your PR status. You are safe as you have been away from Canada for only 17 months (approx.).

Sorry! It was supposed to be like this? That I only have 6 months to stay outside Canada as what he said. I arrived here in the Philippines last February 18,2008 and it will be on August 18 that I will be 6 months here. Do you think I will have problems in getting inside Canada as what he said? I understand what you were telling me that I have to stay inside Canada for 730 days out of 5 years.. Thanks you so much.................Marielou

Yes, you have to stay 730 days out of 5 years to maintain your permanent residency. You will have no problems in entering in Canada based on what you have written in your post.

I guessed no problem as long as you don´t stay outside Canada for stright 2 years.
