Subject: Visitor Visa - Urgent help needed
We applied for a Visitor Visa on 16th June at Chandigarh Consulate office. I also have PR in queue (I have been asked to update my documents). My husband recently got H1B for US and me and my infant son got H4 just two days before filing for Visitor visa to Canada.

My father is a retired govt. officer and mother is still working and is also positioned as a officer with govt.

My brother is in canada since past 5 years (on student visa) and is getting married on 19th to a canadian citizen indian girl.

All the documents are in place, after a week from application submission they said we are verifying your information and we have still not received visas after 3 working weeks. We sent the fax and e-mail messages also. VFS can not do anything about this.

Kindly advise about what to do about it. Where to go? He is my only brother and we all want to attend his wedding. Generally, visas are granted within 5 working days.

Thanks

Sonia

there is no way for any of us to know the status of your file or what is holding things up. My guess is that they need to satisfy themselves that the wedding is not an excuse to get the entire family inside the country. I wish I could promise you your visa but I have heard too many stories that would suggest this is not going to go as hoped.

Please do not lose patience, if you have submitted the valid records of H-1 from USA, then there are chances that you will get the visa. Because they know that if your husband has a job in USA with H-1 in hand then you will definetly not live in Canada and ruin your status. It sometimes take few extra days, when they want to verify the information you have provided. If the day of marriage has past and yopu did not get your passport back then i assume that your visa will be refused.

And let me give you one more mistake of yours. If you have H-1 then what are you doing in India. You should have landed in USA and applied for USA because you are allowed to apply from USA if you are on H-1 or F-1. And getting visitor visa for Canada from USA when you are on F-1 or H-1 is a piece of cake. Very very easy. They only see if you are on valid visa or not (H-1 or F-1) and thats it. Anyways, if you do not get it in India then, come to USA, stay there for a while, and then apply for the visa from USA with proper documents (as you have been refused once) and hopefully you get it and then you may come and meet your brother and his wife. Or ask them to visit you in USA. Good Luck!

status today (in reply to: Visitor Visa - Urgent help needed)
Thanks a lot for your responses... I can not got to US yet as the US consulate lost our I797 form without which we can not enter any US Port. We have reapplied for it and that would take 3 months atleast.... so we are in a fix here... anyways we got a chance to meet the visa officer (which was really very tough) and he assured us to give the final decision by 10 july.. so till then we are just keeping our fingers crossed.... I shall keep you informed.

Visitors Visa (in reply to: Visitor Visa - Urgent help needed)
I applied for a canadian visitors visa, through the invitation of my girlfriend which we met online, we have been together for almost 4 months now, I am currently on a cultural exchange in ecuador and applied from ecuador and was refused visa based on them not being satisfied that i was going to leave after my 2months stay. My girlfriend cannot leave canada to see me as she?s currently fighting a court case which has gone to trial, and i cannot enter cos i have been refused visa, and we have been wondering waht else we could do.
I would like to know what else we could do
How soon i can re-apply again(hos many months from first application)
And exactly what satisfies the consulate that am going to leave after my stay cos i surely have an the exchange till July 2009 here in ecuador which i have to complete and i just applied for 2 months from august till october.
i have an aunty and her family there but didnt include this in my application form as my girlfriend was already giving me all recommenede documents and i didnt plan visiting her within my stay there..
So i would like to know waht could be done in this case..
thanks

Back from visit - visitor (in reply to: Visitor Visa - Urgent help needed)
I finally got a visa on 11th July that too when I had to show the flight reservations for the whole family made on 13th July.... this really convinced them and they called us specially to the consulate to collect our stamped passports, but this was a real bollywood style visit to canada every thing happening at the end and a happy ending.. Now I am back in India after about a month´s visit to Canada and yes the wedding was really very very nice.

you can invite your boyfriend for a visit BUT do not be hopeful. You will have to show CIC that at the end of his visit, he is going home. Boyfriends tend to stay and CIC will not take that risk.

He will need to show property, job with a vacation time, family ties, school... whatever. he will need to show how he intends to pay for his expenses while in Canada. if you are going to host him - say so.

do not invite him to come to see if the relationship will work out.

Cost, is $75 for the permit. (at least the last time we applied)

CIC has a whole section on visiting and what should be included on a letter of invitation.
