Subject: Applying for PR while over on work permit.
Hi there i looked through quite a few pages first to make sure i couldnt find this posted elsewhere and apoligize if it has been as i know how annoying that can be for the people here that help us all out.

Anyways my wife and i are hoping to move PR to Canada but have not started the process yet which i beleive living in UK can be anywhere between 3 and 4 years. What i was wondering though was if we both came over on Work permits with our children can we apply for PR while living in Canada and do we do that through Canada or through London ? Is it quicker if you are already there working ? If not and we get 2 years work permits what are our options at the ned of that if we are still a year or two away from PR as we wouldnt not want to come back to UK.

Also it would be through my wife that we apply for PR as she is the skilled worker...what would it be like for me as a non skilled worker coming to Canada ?...easy enough to get a work permit ? and is a 2 year work permit easy to get ?

Sorry for so many questions but i didnt want to flood the place with loads of threads.

Thank you for any help in advance

Stu :)

The route you are considering is by far the best route of all and by far the safest and fastest. Being from the UK your family will not require TRV Temporary Resident Visas to come and go during your work permit period.

Obtaining employment when there is no concern over language ability is by far easiest.

Depending on the occupation in question and the need for that occupation is whether or not the employer would be willing and able to seek out a (LMO) Labour Market Opinion which allows them to hire a foreigner.

Then you can go the PNP route once the employer is satisfied with your performance, processing 8 months while working.

There is suppose to be a Canadian Experience Class coming real soon which would also cover this route your considering. Applying while working in Canada.

Wishing you and your family all the success possible.

Sorry to ask more questions but i was also wondering...my wife is a skilled worker and would get a work permit no problems but i am a warehouse supervisor and i dont think that qualifies in anyway...what i was wondering though was if she gets a work permit what are my options ? Can i do anything if i dont get a work permit ? i think im right in saying that i can still come over with her!

Also could i do that canadian experience class if im over and cant get work ?

I can only assume your not celebrating Queen Victoria birthday today Stu!

If your spouse is approved for a work permit after obtaining a LMO then you come as a dependent and you receive an open work permit. If the CEC class is ever implemented then your spouse if she meets the requirements would apply and again list you as a dependent.

Nope, we dont celebrate Queen Victoria here in the UK Roy. It was a work day like any other. Dont know who is she, must be a Canadian Queen....:).

Hope you had a good long weekend.

now that is funny. The Brits don´t celebrate Victoria Day. Do you have a different statutory holiday in honour of the Queens birthday? I suspect our stat is a catch all with the focus on a long weekend of some kind in May. Come to think of it... wonder what they call it in Quebec - surely is not Victoria Day!

Well, I am not a Brit, I just live here. And one of the things I learned is that they only have Bank Holidays (no labor day, or presidents´ day or thanksgivings). Just Bank Holidays. All long weekends here are called Bank Holidays, which confuses me. There is a bank holiday next Monday (May 26th), and its not called a Victoria Day, dont know why they have a day off (but I dont argue with days off, just take them cheerfully).

But interestingly enough everyone here know what a labor day is or a presidents´ day is. I guess Hollywood have exported American culture everywhere.

Ray

P.S. But they do have Christmas and Boxing Day (which I have no idea why they call it boxing day...but if I remember correctly you guys in Canada have boxing day too, right? Whats up with that? Is that like when you box in a ring or is it the day you throw away your Christmas presents boxes?)
