(in reply to: a "need to know" basis!) Not sure what you mean by emergency services - paramedic, fire-fighter, rescue? But whatever it is, check the NOC (national occupation list) locating at the Canada immigration web site to find your field.
If it´s there, and if you have at least 1 year experience with enough education, you might be eligible for skilled worker immigration. Take the permanent residence qualification self-test to see for sure if you have the required 67 points.
Another alternative is to find a position where the employer will sponsor you with a temporary work permit. This would add to your qualifications when applying for permanent residence.
Yes, no more just hopping on the oceanliner and arriving.

(in reply to: a "need to know" basis!) I want to be a full time fire fighter, but would i need any sort of qualifications either to join or get in to the country. I am currently studying at university.
I always thought i would need a degree to be allowed to move to canada, or some sort of skill like a qualified mechanic etc.
How do i go about getting a job? would I have to come over on vacation and look around?
thanks
