Subject: permanent resident status expiring in 6 months
  Hello,

I have a permanent resident status of Canada and staying in Mumbai, India due to some personal reasons. I have lived in Canada for not more than 6 months since I have got the PR status five years back. My PR expires in mid 2008.

My wife and kids are Canadian citizens and are currently in Canada.

What would be my status at the end of 5 years term with regards to renewal of permanent residency or a possibility of getting a citizenship?

Kindly reply,

Thank you,
Ronnie

YOU WOULD HAVE NO STATUS. YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE YOUR PARTNER IF SHE STILL CARES FOR Y0U AFTER FIVE YEARS OF ABSENCE TO SPONSOR YOU BACK.

You must be live in Canada two out of five years in order to renew your PR status for the next five years.

You haven´t been in Canada for more than six months. You basically lost your permament residency. You´ll have to do it all over again like you did five years ago.

If your Canadian wife has been accompanying you in India for two years, you´d be fine since that can be counted as present in Canada.
