Interesting EU ruling today on Canada´s strict visa rules. U.S. maintains similar strict policies, with rationale that citizens of these newer EU countries tend to overstay (i.e. work illegally) their tourist visa stays. We´ll see how Canada (conservative government) reacts.

I tend to side with EU on this, however.

Richard,

Hmmm..you are changing my mood into politics again LOL.

I tend to side with Canada and US in their strict policies. The EU countries (the western) have started to complain, have astarted to seek the change of policies but they are too shy, too embarrassed to say it publicly. Newer EU citizens are now flooding all over. Situation is getting tense.

Interesting story

I was thinking few months ago, why Canada is doing such a discrimination for new EU countries.
Canada has to be sure that the quality of life in EU is better to CA
100% sure

Sutar, yes all these immigration issues are ultimately related to politics. Glad you like the political side - adds some spice to these dry rules and statistics discussions.

I probably agree with Speed on this being a discrimination issue, though. Newer EU citizens flooding all over? - like a swarm of locusts? I guess I´m more of the open borders mentality and less of the walled fortress feudal states worldview. Plus, the EU is the EU. Just like you can´t say yes to people from Massachussetts, but no to people from Mississippi.

Richard,
I am with you in theory. Open free borders idea has been my long dream. However, things have to be taken slowly and with reality. If Canada open borders, you and I may be the first to complain. The ideal world ONLY exists in heaven.
I am half European (by ethnicity) and have lived there for long time. I am visiting EU right now, while typing. I am almost confident that the EU will eventually fall apart. I can see it. People, by nature, always abuse the system.

Guys,
As I was saying all along, Immigration is politics. It is used as a political football to be kicked around by selfish and racist politicians to suit their own needs. I avoided opening any thread on this issue because there are people on this forum who are saying I am paranoid, talking nonsense etc.
I am happy that Richard has opened this thread.
Remember Le Pen from France? Recently in Holland, a politician take his pig in front of a mosque to protest against muslims.

I have to agree with you, Balwant, that immigration and politics is an inescapable mix. Here in the U.S. as you know, there´s a strong anti-immigrant (albeit illegal in name) backlash going on, directed mostly at Latinos. They want to build a 700 mile wall along the Mexican border, but at the same time not a peep about the openness of the Canadian border. Some here call it racism in immigration policy.

Yes, isn´t it ridiculous? And this coming from a nation of immigrants.

Richard,

in your previous politics threads, I mentioned and referred to the very end period of Roman Empire, where there had been nothing but arrogance ..arrogance and arrogance. This is the obvious sign nowadays in the so called immigration nations, but we all may need to have eye surgery to remove our chronic catarct in order to be able to see better. Well done Roy and congrats for the success of your eye operation.
