Subject: Proof of funds
Could you inform me when we should have the required amount of money? We applied for PR, SW in Chile, on June 2007. We wer said in the AOR that nothing will happen with our file in 4 months, but from that date they will ask the supporting documents. Our question is if WE MUST HAVE all that money at that moment or it is possible to count on this TWO YEARS (length of the process for my country) to save the rest of the money. We (four) only have the 70%. Thanks

The answer is ANY TIME.

As far as I know you should show proof of funds at the time of submission. Most people are asked to show proof (again) at the time of IA.

People say they can ask you anytime during the process. You should be ready.

Anything that is directly transferable into money you can use in Canada.

Properties are NOT included.

Show how much you have in your bank account. That is the easiest way.

Then sell the property and car and put the money in the bank as they only want transferable money not cars and properties.

they want to see how you are going to pay your rent in Canada, buy food in Canada, take the bus in Canada... owning property in Inuktuk does not help you one bit unless you turn it into cash and bring it with you. That is what they want to know... what are you planning to bring with you to support yoursef.

Sharon said it right!

You need to show that you can support yourself once in Canada. They don´t care if you owe 3 houses, 5 cars, 2 hotels ...... Sell it all and bring the money.

you don´t need to sell it ALL. but CIC wants to see the minimum in cash as they show on their CIC guide. Until you get your PR, I would not sell much of anything in case your application is not approved.

Use your common sense and answer the question they are asking. How do you intend to pay your bills once you arrive in Canada - they want to see 6 months of cash.
