Subject: spouse' dependent children
I am 50 years old, divorced and my annual income is about 50,000. I want to sponsor my future wife and 2 of her sons to immigrate to canada. One of them currently studying university in canada (19 years old) and the other is in grade 11 in Vietnam. how long would it take the application with 2 dependents to be finalized, compared to single applicant? What facts may affect the decision on application with dependent child? Will the one in Canada have to come back to Vietnam for interview, medical check and get the visa with his mother and brother?
Plz give me some information. I want to reunite with them cuz living alone is too bad at my age.
Thanks, Peter Tran

I´m in a similar situation - my husband is sponsoring me for PR and I have to include my 3 children (all under 22 years of age) on my application, whether they´re immigrating to Canada or not. I don´t think there is a significant difference in the timeline for processing when you add dependent children to the application. You can check the current processing timeline for the visa office processing aps for Vietnam here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/05-fc-spouses.html

The son in Canada can get his medicals done in Canada, and he will also need a criminal clearance for any country in which he has resided for more than 6 months since turning 18. In regards to his landing: assuming he cannot get into the States without a visa you should check whether it´s possible for him to "land" when the time comes by leaving Canada and re-entering without entering the States (in Ontario they call it "walk to the flagpole").

The child in Vietnam only needs a medical exam with a designated medical practitioner. The list is included with the Region specific forms for Vietnam in the outside application package. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3906e.pdf

I also asked whether my children will be required to attend an interview and I was assured they won´t - with the exception of the landing interview. Also, spousal sponsors are exempt from meeting the minimum income requirements of other applications. Hope this answers all your questions.

Does anybody can explain how to read the processing time statistic on CIC website. I got so confused about the percentage and number of months. for example, If 30% finalized in 4 months, why 40% then 50% and 80% which doesnt add up to 100%???? what does this really mean; CIC never show us how to understand it.
I and my spouse only in the relationship for several months, through matching service. Does the short term of relationship affect the decision? I have just gone bak to Vietnam this month to see her and we decide marriage on summer. Is it too fast?
Please help us enlist what kind of papers we should have to prove to CIC our genuine marriage?
Thanks

Hi,
I will sponsor my husband and my dependent child. Do you think the processing time will be shorter as my child is only 1.5 yrs and living without mom. Visa office is Singapore
