Subject: someone that made the change
Hi people - It?s been quite a few months since I was last on here after gaining my PR having landed March 06.

Most of my experiences have been pretty good in Canada although sometimes I have got a bit fed up with the job market - it seems sometimes that even with lots of qualifications and skills to offer you do get passed by. I am pleased to say though that I have gained employment just above the minimum wage and am making steady progress towards gaining that all important Canadian work experience. I made the change to come to Canada so that I could be with my family and I am thankful that I can enjoy that - so I am taking one day at a time and with any luck the best things will come to those who wait and bide their time wisely. Looking back on some of the past topics I do feel that there is a certain amount of discrimination by some employers to new immigrants but with any luck they are in the minority. I can only hope as I slowly rebuild my career etc in this new beautiful country.
I wish you all a speedy conclusion to your immigration.

Dude you will gradually lose time anticipating the big payoff. However, it will help greatly if you lower your expectations. Lowering one?s expectations is probably the single best advice I can give ALL new immigrants. Your education is little more than the paper it is declared on! So cultivate a good healthy attitude toward whatever Canada throws in your way and you will soon find at least some satisfaction in living here. On the other hand, if you are really young and have truly appreciable skills that require serious education, such as doing science or technology research, then you can always move to the US where all that matters is the actual skill and not the origins of your education. It is great pity that the people of the netherworlds think of Canada as a technology power house, while in fact Canada is little more than a second fiddle in the American Band. At the turn of the 20th century, many Canadian ideologues thought that the Century belonged to Canada. Now we have the benefit of the hind-sight and know that that century in fact turned out to belong to the US. Then again, Canadian ideologues were wishful thinkers. Canada had nothing going on for her except their blind ass-licking disposition toward the British. But then again, Britain looked formidable as the 20 century began. The US, however, was set to win the century: Ford and GM were already pushing the auto industry and power grid ideas, American Aluminum and Union Carbide were becoming giants, the wright brothers were headed to glory and so on.... The US had all the signs of an evolving giant, while Canada was a mere British ass-lick... To this day, unfortunately Canada remains that way. It is not only that Canada lost the last century to the US, but that Canada is condemned, by its very Nature, to play the rough-neck in the US economy. So think hard what you have done to yourself by coming here and project your future growth. As I said, it would help greatly if you are still relatively young. Americans oftentimes do not like to hire dying old men!!!

yty,

You made the right choice in coming to Canada in my opinion. It is a beautiful country and has quite a future waiting for it.

The previous post by "right man´ is completely out of touch with the facts at best, and ignorantly biased at worst. Canada is experiencing huge economic growth over the past few years. It has an abundance of natural resources that include industrial metals, uranium, oil, etc. which the emerging 3rd world craves. It has dynamic industries in technology and pharmaceuticals that the world is taking notice of. It is not at war with and country and can concentrate on future growth. The Canadian dollar as a result has surged in value.

The U.S. meanwhile is mired in a debilitating war draining that country´s national debt and the patience of its people.
Relations with most of the rest of the world have soured. Medical care coverage and costs have reached crisis proportion. Technology and IT jobs are being exported to the 3rd world. The next century no longer "belongs to the U.S." just as the Roman empire couldn´t sustain itself in its arrogance, self-absorption, and moral decline.

Canada has no issues in its relations with the UK. As a commonwealth nation, Canada remains independent in its politics and economic policies while continuing the special relationship with the UK.

These are the facts the some people conveniently ignore or are unaware of.

Richard can you name a single drug that Canada introduced into global market during the last decade? Don´t say BC Bud, it is only a narcotic... And also it was not introduced by any Canadian corporation or government agency.

None of those were patented by a Canadian Corp. The bulk of the patents and actual testing and approval were done south of the border. Don´t just run to a drug store and list every damn thing you see there!!! Nice try though.
