(in reply to: pr returning to usa) As long as you have a D/S stamped on your I-94 landing document you can return back. However, you need to be back within 30 days and cannot leave Canada to goto any other country.
I´m in similar situation and I checked with my school´s international students office for rules.
Make sure the I-20 endorsement is current (have it done before you leave).

(in reply to: pr returning to usa) Hi Peter,
What do you mean by D/S stamped on your I-94, could you please explain.

(in reply to: pr returning to usa) D/S - Duration of stay of your entire academic program. i.e. even if your visa is for 2 years but it takes you 4 years to complete your program and have a D/S stamped that means you are OK to stay for entire 4 years - but cannot leave the country after your visa expires.
Only Canada, Mexico and I think Bermuda some small countries around US are exempt from the rule - however your stay cannot exceed 30 days.
Hope it helps.

(in reply to: pr returning to usa) D/S is stamped when you arrive to US for first time for a study program.
