Subject: About to give up my PR before landing |

After three years together (with me having to return to Britain last year at the end of my work permit), my Canadian partner and I have decided (amicably) to call it quits. Only last month we received my PR through her sponsorship and I was due to land in the next month or two. :-(
Before I contact CIC to let them know what has happened, is there anything I should consider before doing so?

ouch! (in reply to: About to give up my PR before landing) Hi,
If your partner agrees not to report the matter to CIC I think you can land and claim your PR. I think your partner is liable for your financial needs for the next 5 years. If your claim any kind of disability or unemployment benefits in the next 5 years, she would be responsible for reimbursing the canadian government.

(in reply to: About to give up my PR before landing) Hey anonymous, I strongly suggest you transfer your landing permit to Departure Bay. He seems to desperately need -- and desrver -- a PR.

(in reply to: About to give up my PR before landing) However, do not land and pass bills to whoever... It is simply cruel to do such crap. Britain is very much a normal livable country so just keep livin there and look for a new partner in your your neighborhood.

(in reply to: About to give up my PR before landing) Hi Someguy & Ang,
I´m not interested in doing something unpleasant as we are very good friends. She initially offered to continue the sponsorship, but I am not sure if this is the right (or legal) thing to do.
I´m sure that if Departure Bay is deserving of a PR he/she will get it. I gave up a lot of my life and its security for mine and I am sure that they will get there too. I will just have to start again or take a work permit.
Thanks for the input from everyone :-)

(in reply to: About to give up my PR before landing) I have contacted CIC to tell them about the situation and expect to hear from them asking me to return my COPR in the near future.
Thanks again for your inputs.
