Can American citizens or legal permanent residents visit for 6 months per visit or per year?
If its per visit, do you simply leave for a few days and come right back in?

you enter canada u usually get a six months stay. (double check with stamp in passport, if there is not date, it´s 6 months).
if u travel back to the US and then to Canada again withi thw 6 month, they do not renew theselves each time.
ifu leave after 6 month or bfore and nter again after the original 6 months have expired you may get additional 6 months.
you can ask for an extention within Canada but while the application is in process you may not leave or it is deemed null.
