Subject: Spouse In Canada
I am currently residing in Canada with my husband on just a visitor record. I am a citizen of the U.S. I am ready to send in my application (IN Canada) for permanent residence. I was wondering if I should wait to do my medicals or if I should do them right away. I am asking because now it seems as if the time will be longer than 6 months to process my application, but on my document checklist, it says to send in my proof of having medicals done. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Megan

Your application is most likely to succeed so you might as well provide them with the medicals to cut short any delays due to beaurocracy.

You are supposed to do them upfront if you´re applying from inside--not sure why if you have a longer timeline than outside. I don´t know if they will return your application if you don´t do it at the beginning, so I wouldn´t take the chance.

Keep us informed, since I am in the same situation.

Why did you decide to send it "in Canada : rather then through Buffalo? I was told that If you are currently "visiting" Canada you can still apply through Buffalo. I was going to send it through Buffalo. Is there a reason you chose to do it "In Canada"

Hey Everyone,

I finally got ahold of some one at the Immigration Canada call center and they informed me that I do not have to have my medicals and police clearance sent in right away. They said to send them in as soon as I get them or else it will take longer. I am applying within Canada so that I can be with my husband. I thought about going home, but I do not want to leave him, even though I am only from the U.S., but we still live 24 hours apart by car. Also if I apply within Canada, after about 90 days I can get a work permit.
