Subject: IELTS - EDUCATED IN CANADA,
  Dear all,

I would kindly ask for an information please.
Based on experience from applicants who finished their undergraduate or graduate studies in Canada....

1)Was IELTS or French proficiency Test required for the applicants who finished their undergraduate or graduate studies in Canada?
I claimed high profficiency in English (took 2 ESL courses at university) and completed 2 French courses at Canadian private colleges.

2) What is the duration of the entire process for applicants from Canada via Buffalo?

3) Do you know any case similar to mine that was rejected or accepted?

I am working towards my MAsc degree in Engineering, have 19 months of industrial working experience in Mechanical engineering and I am working towards MASc at Canadian University and work as a research assistant.I applied as a skilled worker.
I am planning to submit letters of reference from my supervisor, ESL instructor, French program course description, TOEFL scores, Proof of passed oral exam for research assistants.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards Boy

Sounds like you´ll pass. You need to show the minimum funds in your bank account at the time of application, time of initial assessment about 12 months later, and then at time of landing at the end of the process (usually about 2 years). I highly recommend you submit your IELTS results. Many people that finished their university degrees in Canada received IELTS requests after applying, and all it does is slow down your application process. I had a similar experience.

I am a research assistant as well. They haven´t asked me to sent IELTS results (although they can still ask for them, I guess - I´ve just received IA). I also have a couple of friends in the same situation. They are finished with the immigration process now and they weren´t asked for IELTS results. We all have submitted copies of our TOEFL results, letters from supervisors and transcripts from uiversity

As you´ll read on the visa office instruction form, TOEFL is not an approved judgement tool for English proficiency. CIC only accepts IELTS or TEF. As for people who are almost at the final stage of their PR, most of them didn´t get IELTS request. You can ask most of the people that applied to Buffalo from January to March 2005, and a large percentage of them will tell you they received IELTS requests. Better safe than sorry.

Yes,
TOEFL is not approved.CIC recommends IELTS. TOEFL does not test your english speaking ability.
Many people assume that they will get 16 points for their english since they have their TOEFL ( assuming they cant speak french). Believe me, its not true.Even if you are research assistant,CIC do not care. They just give 12 points. So carefully think about it if you are borderline case for 67 points. Otherwise do not worry too much about english if you have more than 75 points.I hope this helps.

Boy...I finished my degree in Canada and English is the only language I´m fluent in, however, you still have to prove it to CIC, cause they don´t know that. Having a degree from a Canadian university doesn´t prove anything about your English proficiency. Half the grad students at my university could barely converse in English.

Hi Joy,

1)When did you apply? What is IA?
2)Did you or did not receive the IELTS request?
3)Were you undergrad or grad student?
4)Did they ask you to submit the proof of university degree?
5)Did you find a job during the application procedure and provided CIC proof?

Thanks :-)
