Subject: How do I transfer funds?
  Hi,
I do not have a Canadian bank account yet, but I am planning to have one once there. I have a U.S bank account.
does anyone knows if it is possible to transfer the funds from my U.S Bank account to a Canadian Bank account while in Canada? by phone maybe? need to sign an authorization?
I don´t want to be carrying cash on me, any suggestions or alternatives?

Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

probably, they won´t let you open an account over the phone. so you go Canada, open an account and then apply to your US bank to transfer your assets. Keep in mind that they will charge fees (starting from 45 dolars, ...)

You can also try multi-national banks, like Citi. I guess they would offer an easier transition from a branh to another. Maybe, you can even do it online.

What if one carry a "certified cheque" from the USA? Will it help? If yes, how long does it take from the USA to clear after opening an account in Canada?

Any suggestion or any other input?

BTW, sugar, "online banking" is same as you do at physical site. You can pay your biils and transfer balance online thru your bank 24/7, check statement instantly, and more! Hope this help ya!

Usually at the time of arrival at Canada you will be asked for proof of funds and if you don?t have this proof you are in trouble. Banks don?t open accounts online.

You can ask your banker to issue a Demand Draft OR a Payment Order in your name, which could be drawn at any Canadian bank. This will be enough.

Afterwards you can open an account in any Bank in Canada and get the DD or PO collected through your new account.
