Canada Immigration Forum (discussion group)

Subject: Everyone, please read
Entertaining while this may be for a lot of folks, the recent depths to which this forum has descended is nothing short of shameful. Attacks and counter-attacks of the nature we have seen bring out the worst in us, much like a fatal traffic accident that everyone slows to look at.

By their very nature, forums - especially ones that don´t need registration like this one - allow the kind of exchanges most people would never dare indulge in in real life. It really is up to individuals to keep discussion civil, just as they (hopefully) would in life outside cyberspace.

It´s with good reason that there is a forum saying "Don´t feed the trolls". (Look it up in wikipedia if you don´t know what it means). Flamers are best handled by *not* responding to them at all, or at the very least by not responding in kind. It would also help to have a mod who is a little more on the ball and doesn´t let matters get so out of hand as they have here.

As for those who choose to attack individuals, let me just say this: If you have a bone to pick, do it with issues. Point out the errors in a specific message rather than start a new thread damning the messenger. If indeed that post had errors, and is accepted as having that, it benefits the community as a whole.

Choosing to focus an attack on the poster himself/herself might make for a great spectator sport, but eventually hurts the community by driving away people who are here to help.

I hope this message is taken in the spirit with which it was intended.

Good night everyone.

my appologies for my part in the last days outbursts. I should know enough about this place to realize there are times it is better to simply walk away and let a persons) be an idiot by themselves. Unfortunately, I got sucked in to the conversation and joined them.

Hopefully, our administrator can bring us back to civility with his trusty delete button.

I think it is for us to deal with, not the moderator. We are all adults and can cull through the information, assualts and entertainment and take from it what we desire.

I endorse civility, but oppose censorhip for those who do not participate in civil discourse.

My two cents. Happy Holidays.

I agree with typo. There are so many times Id like to jump into the fight and throw in a few punches but I restrain myself. If you do jump in, you´re just encouraging the fools so the next time you see an idiot on the forum just ignore him/her. It´s the only way to win the battle. Dont stoop down to their level, even if it is to defend the "good people." The intelligent members of this forum can easily differentiate between stimulating intellectual discussion and ignorant stupidity.
