In Canada and Many other countries, especially where christianity dominates (both Catholics and Orthodox) Good Friday is a special day celebrated on the Friday before Easter. It basically commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Mainstream Christian churches view Christ's crucifixion as a voluntary and vicarious act, and one by which, along with his resurrection on the third day (Good Friday), death itself was conquered.
