"McGill was rated the number one school in the medical doctoral ranking, which Keller says is no surprise since it was tied with the University of Toronto last year."

"So, did York´s bowing out have anything to do with their ranking?
"No, people have sort of asked me that and I´ve said, well there are some schools that dropped out that did somewhat better; they moved up in the ranking. There´s schools that dropped out that did somewhat worse in the ranking," said Tony Keller, managing editor of the issue."

"One of the biggest contentions of the universities that dropped out was the publication of two student surveys: the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and the Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium (CUSC). Typically, the universities use these two surveys in order to see where they can improve. The schools did not want the magazine to publish the results. Maclean´s, however, won the right to publish it from its FOI requests."

"And as you said, York didn´t provide us with data, and they went up one. So, obviously our objective wasn´t to go out and punish anybody. It was simply to gather the best publicly available data and publish it and let the chips fall where they may."

"However, I have to admit that Macleans does suck ass and our high school methodology actually makes Queens look good. God have mercy on our souls."

Nice post!... It shows in a nutshell why UofT was so scared of providing data. They knew from the beginning that they would fall down in the ranking. So they did everything they could so as to not publish the rankings this year. haha losers..

^ You just know this tonight??

We all know that from day one when UofT decided not to participate in the MaClean´s rankings.

This is the statement from the Macleans guy. Do you think he´s going to come out and say that he is pissed at UofT?

If you read some of the editorials in Maclean´s, you´ll see what I mean. You guys have to remember something....UofT was number one for 12 years and they boycotted the ranking. I´m sorry but if that doesn´t send a strong message, I don´t know what does. This isn´t the same as McMaster boycotting when it lies in 11th place.

To be honest, the ranking doesn´t upset me at all. What does fustrate me is the kids who read it and think it must be accurate.

you have to remember that UofT boycotted essentially because they didn´t want student surveys (in which they regularly do poorly in) to be included in the ranking. such cowards! and please, stop with the "past 12 years" crap, you´re further re-asserting the fact UofT is now a washed-up has been.

Kid, there is so much you don´t understand. UofT (like many other schools) didn´t participate in the survey. Okay, that´s one thing which has nothing to do with the rankings which is totally seperate and does not depend on any type of student survey.

Whatever though. If you need Maclean´s to tell you which University is the best, then so be it. I, like many others, don´t take such a simplistic approach. UofT students hardly payed attention to what Maclean´s said even when in first, because we realized it´s flaws. Maybe one day you´ll realize these flaws too.
