Again this year, McGill earns first place among medical-doctoral universities
McGill University is Canada´s top-ranked medical-doctoral university, scoring the highest marks in the country for a second consecutive year in the Maclean´s magazine 16th annual University Rankings issue. Last year, McGill tied for the number-one spot with the University of Toronto, but occupies the top position alone this year ahead of Queen´s University in second and U of T in third.
McGill also earned top marks for its reputation for the "highest quality" in the national reputational ranking category, based on a survey of university officials, high school principals and guidance counsellors, business leaders and corporate recruiters.
McGill scored the highest marks in the country in a number of categories, which assess universities on 24 weighted indicators that offer an overview of the quality of the students, professors, instruction and services at the university.
Main categories in which McGill excelled again this year include:
* McGill students have the highest entering grade average in the country at 88.9 per cent
* McGill has the most international student body among medical-doctoral universities
* McGill students win proportionately the largest number of national student awards of any university in the medical-doctoral category
* McGill professors earn more peer-reviewed research grants than other universities with medical schools on a per-faculty basis in several disciplines.
In the most rigorous national and international rankings and surveys, McGill is consistently ranked among the very best universities in large part because of the outstanding quality of its students and professors, their scholarly achievements and the quality of teaching and research programs.
"Each ranking system has its own approach, based on a specific set of indicators," said Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill. "And while it is impossible to capture the quality and strengths of universities in a single score, these surveys are useful for prospective students and being accountable to the public. Consistently, they show that McGill is a national treasure with international impact."
Last month, the Times Higher Education Supplement, based in London, once again named McGill as Canada´s top university and the only Canadian university in the top 25 universities in the world ? in 21st position ? along with Oxford, Harvard and the University of California (Berkeley), the only other public North American university in the top 25.

What will these UofT kids say now! Hey by the way, Maclean?s IS THE GOLD STANDARD in this country, and McGill is ranked #1. Where?s UofT... 2nd place? Nope, that?s right, it?s rightfully in 3rd place. Guess who?s slipping? UofT. UofT can?t even be considered the number 2. That goes to Queen?s.
have a good one!
