McGill is the best because it´s McGill.

Yes, that´s the answer. Maybe it seems too circular to some. Here´s an attempt at a longer answer. The prestige of a school, which McGill wins by a large margin, is based on the success of its alumni. McGill has the most successful alumni. Because of this, McGill attracts the best students who after they graduate, combined with the prestige of their degree, get the best careers and become the most successful themselves. The cycle perpetuates itself. McGill alumni control the best career opportunities. If you are content with simply having a decent job, by all means go elsewhere. The interviewer probably went there himself. "Wow, you also went to UofT! Cool, you´re hired." But if you want to work at top places, then you need to go where they went, and they went to McGill. Because McGill is the head and shoulders above all other schools, there is no substitute for McGill. In this sense, McGill has a monopoly. So would I recommend anyone go to UofT? Not if you can get into McGill. A degree from McGill will get you further.

Bottom line: Size does not matter, only reputation. And that my friend, is McGill´s trump card.

Funny how McGill has turned to intangibles like reputation. They are proud of attracting the detritus of the US Northeast and shrug off their poor ratings in Canada.

Please tell us Original Poster, what makes you think McGill has the best reputation in Canada? Please, please post the links to all your little references of "Harvard of the North".

Circular logic still needs "proof". Your argument is based on assumptions that you´ve provided no evidence for. Is this how they teach rhetoric at McGill? Congratulations on educating early Canadian Prime Ministers. What have you done recently? (Besides losing your reputation.)

what you don´t realize is that McGill has both outstanding academics/research AND reputation. UofT has no reputation and likes to make it out as some research powerhouse when its large research numbers are due to its grotesquely large staff and student population. what the the op and i are suggesting is that when it comes to the real world, its the reputation that counts. your grandmother, mother, sister, employer, etc. don´t read Macleans, THES, SJTU, etc. no matter which university is no 1. I don´t really care if UofT takes no 1 in any ranking, nor do I care if McGill tops THES or whatever. Because in the end, it´s the reputation and prestige that counts in the real world. this isn´t an argument, more of a reality-check for you uoft fanboys out there.

Yes, I think that in terms of being realistic, OP is right. I believe UofT students have some kind of inferiority complex; thus, they talk about their research in every opportunity, when in fact, even in research, if u do not consider size, McGill is much better.

Funny how this anonymous forum is the only place you hear ppl trash UofT.

Try and sway opinion at forums.studentawards.com.

Seriously. Try going there and telling students from across Canada that UofT isn´t as good as McGill. Occassionally a first year McGilligan tries and it´s always fun to watch them slapped down.

studentawards??? LOL i guess the opinions of those kids at that little site are suddenly the word of god. oops i mean their opinion is somehow the GOLD STANDARD! try telling anyone outside of canada, go outside into the real world, and try telling them UofT is better than McGill. Not only should you be prepared to get shot down, but also be prepared for their blank stares: "UofT?? what´s UofT? you mean University of Texas??".

Dude, you talk about reputation. Studentawards is the most reputable student forum in Canada.

You can spout off all your nonsense on an anonymous site but you´re obviously just posing if you´re too afraid to go to a moderated forum.

Once again, McGill rhetoric falls flat on its ass. Your stupidity and polemicism doesn´t do that school any favours. Keep posting pal, you´re making it harder and harder for future McGill students to get hired.

Well if you don´t want to actually argue that McGill has more Canadian and international prestige, fine. I don´t blame you. You and I both know you´re just talking shit.
