Reputation means nothing?

Subject: Reputation means nothing?
There is an idiot on this post who keeps defending McGill´s reputation and prestige.

He keeps ranting about how research means nothing, but only reputation and prestige, and so McGill is better than another other Canadian university.

Reputation, especially one built on past accomplishments, means nothing.

Oxford University is arguably considered the English world´s most famous university...but in international rankings, it harldy cracks the top five universities in the world, and is only considered one of the top ten.

Why is there such a disparity between reputation and ranking?

The reason is RESEARCH. Oxford simply lacks the financial resources and endowment to compete with the best American universities...and this is why Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, etc...to attact the world´s best researchers.

This is why money does matter. This is why research matters. This is why REPUTATION and PRESTIGE, especially a university that is still riding on its past, like McGill or Oxford, reputation does not matter.

you don´t really have a point when you have to change a quote and make up something to serve your point. kind of defeats the purpose, but then again, you called yourself an idiot so you´re not very bright.
