thats right.. John A Macdonald the famous canadian prime minister!!!

in all seriousness i know lots, tonnes of friends of the family and such.. my dad is also an engineer and althogh he chose not to go in the direction of general managment he still makes $115,000+ managing within central engineering. Alot of engineers eventually turn away from core engineering because of the $$ in managment, me.. i would rather be an engineer than a manager even if i make less money.

I am happy to hear that, I am looking for an engineer to unclog my toilet. How much do you charge?

Many companys will pay for their engineers to obtain an MBA if they are willing, those who choose to purse it are sometimes favored for managment... not so much because they actually have an MBA, but because it doign it demonstrates continuous improvment and commitment.

An MBA is a great asset for an engineer, but having an MBA does not grant that you will be any more sucessful than an engineering without.

Your all stupid. Management is a natural progression for most engineers. All it takes is 5-10 years of work + professional certification, god you arts students are dumb. They sure as hell dont let people who know nothing about engineering manage other engineers, that would be a true model of inefficiency.

nope
look at the PEO survey, an MBA is not needed for management positions

PS the real world: your arts degree leads to unemployment or a McJob, if you´re lucky :)

Real life: the type of degree you recieve does not determine your success.

^ Correction, the type of degree you get makes a huge impact on your success, but it can be simplified into 3 categories.

Professional studies: Gives you a head start and competative advantage

Science: opens doors, the degree shows that your sharp but you are still not trained to work and thus have no initial advantage in the work force.

Arts and humanities: no advantage whatsoever, most graduates of this who have any brains quickly smarten up and go to teachers college(professional)

How do you explain Bill Gate´s success, an undergraduate drop-out? If you think that the iron ring will mandate success, think again. I know a sales clerk and a high school teacher who have engineering degress. Your success depends on your overall package.
