Shut up with U of T! It´s the largest Canadian university, not the best.

I´m not a Mcgill student, but I think McGill is the "best overall" university in Canada.

Yes, UofT has most money. Yes, UofT has Professors with most awards Yes, many rankings rate UofT as high as McGill. But this is the reality: 1) UofT invest loads of cash but cannot produce. In fact, performance-wise, I would not even rank this University in the top 3 in Canada. 2) Awards from professors currently at UofT arise mostly from their work in previous universities, notably McGill, UofT just buys them, 3) Maclean´s and other ranking systems that score UofT tops are Toronto-based. International rankings that don´t care about Canadian universties do not rate of UofT very high. In fact, most rate McGill and UBC higher. Who are you going to trust? Toronto-based rankings or the International community? Go home of UofT, cash does not translate to anything, in fact, with all that cash you should be like Harvard, but really, you peform like York.

In response to what has to be the most retarded post yet,

1. UofT has the largest endowment, but if you consider the size of faculty and students, Queens and McGill have more money for their size.

2. UofT publishes more research than any other University in North America except for Harvard. Considering that there are many Universities with much larger faculties and with waaay bigger endowments down South, I?d say say UofT is producing/performing just fine.

3. Saying that the awards UofT researchers and professors win are from previous Universities is plain retarded. Instead of making up things, show us one source to give us a little confidence in what you?re saying. When these reports release statistics saying how many awards faculty have won at a given institution, it means awards won AT that institution. Understand? In the past 20 years, UofT faculty have won 25% of national awards (and even more international awards) even though they comprise just 7% of the nations University faculty.

4. Most International rankings don?t rate UofT high? Buddy, there are only two major rankings. World University rankings lists UofT as number one in Canada and 24th in the World. THES lists UofT as number two in Canada and 29th in the world (8 spots up from last year, while McGill lost a few places). So, which rankings are you talking about? Did you make them up in your head?

5. With all that cash you should perform like Harvard!? Dude, how do you have any education at all? Harvard has a $25.9 BILLION endowment, while UofT has a $1.5 BILLION endowment. Do the math.

1. Size of students is relevant, performance of a university is based on research. You need to look at the same of faculty where that money is going to. This puts UofT and McGill at par for size, and more money for endowement for UofT.

2. Only UofT people say this and I wonder what their source is. Regardless, number of publications does not matter. It is the number of publications in high impact journals. UofT record ain´t that impressive.

3. You are wrong !!! Number of awards caluclated in these rankings is irrespective of where the professors conducted the research. In addition, it takes 5 to 10 years for recognition. By this time, U of T lures these professors to come over. Give me one example of one professor at UofT that got an award based on their research at you UofT. Provide me the name of the award and the citation of the cutting-edge work.

4. World University rankings are a joke !!! Each year the results are completely different for example, last year they ranked UofT 9th in the World and Yale 11th in the World. This year they ranked Yale 2nd and UofT 24th. You call that reliable??? These people are ranking universities out of their a** and they are not from any recognizable organization.

5. What is your source on Harvard ???

McGill faculty get more money on average than UofT faculty, yet look at the results.

High Impact?

--In total citations, the University of Toronto topped 15 fields: chemistry; materials science; engineering; space science; mathematics; ecology/environment; clinical medicine; immunology; biology and biochemistry; molecular biology/genetics; neurosciences; pharmacology; psychology/psychiatry; education; and economics and business. The University of British Columbia ranked first in four fields: physics; geosciences; plant and animal science; and microbiology.

When examining impact (or average citations per paper), the University of Toronto ranked first in the five fields: engineering, microbiology, biology & biochemistry, molecular biology/genetics and education. The University of Western Ontario topped the fields of immunology, pharmacology, and economics & business.

--Over a 25 year period, the University of Toronto leads in the receipt of awards from prestigious international bodies, securing a significant Canadian presence in these ranks. The University?s share of awards granted by national agencies ranges from 19.1 to 38.5 percent and is even more predominant when measuring distinctions conferred by international agencies, which ranges from 23.8 to 68.2 percent. To put things into perspective, according to Statistics Canada the University of Toronto?s share of faculty is estimated at just under seven percent (excluding clinical faculty and those based in hospital research institutes), and yet they garnered 19.1 to 68.2 percent of the awards.

Here. Quick search and this is pretty recent:

Are you on crack though? Don´t you realize how many awards UofT faculty win?

You brought it up, retard. Where did you get UofT placed 9th in the world? No ranking has placed UofT 9th. Stop making shit up. And these rankings don´t change that much year to year. Dude, you´re an idiot. You have no basis for accusing these officials of "ranking universities out of their ass".

1. You clearly misunderstood. You should be in grade 5 not in university, even UofT. If McGill and UofT have the same number of faculty and UofT has more money, that gives more money per faculty member at UofT compared with McGill. UofT likes to boast about this fact and claims that it is one of its strengths. What I am saying is that money does not translate necessarily to performance, such is the case of UofT.

2. You clearly do not know what impact factor is. Each and every scientific journal has an impact factor calculated as the average number of times its article gets cited in a year. E.g. Nature has an impact factor of 34 and Science of 32. Clearly UofT does not teach you this, most likely because it publishes mostly in crap journals. They certainly did a good job at brain washing you there.

3. I asked you to provide me one example of only one professor at UofT that got an award based on their research at UofT and not elsewhere. You were unable to do this, which shows that UofT is more pathetic than I thought.

4. I am not making this shit up. These guys actually changed their last year rankings! I swear! It is sad that the only ranking system that scores UofT higher than McGill is the Institute of Higher Education in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

5. So, you use wikipedia. Is that where you get all your UofT facts. How do I know its UofT students that write facts for wikipedia.

LMAO. Are you for real? I feel like I´m in the twighlight zone. Or, rather, I feel like I´m talking to a brick wall.

1. McGill and UofT don´t have the same number of faculty. UofT has more. UofT has more money. However, McGill has more money available for each of it´s faculty memebers. Understand?

2. I provided you with a link that showed UofT number one in terms of impact for 5 different fields (more than any other Canadian University). McGill was did not lead in impact for one field, nor did it publish the most research in any field. Are you blind?

3. Are you braindead? I provided a link.

4. Yes you are.

5. Look it up.
