Over 3,000 students are enrolled at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology for the 2005-2006 academic year. Enrolment is expected to rise to 6,500 students by 2010.


The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is Ontario´s fastest-growing university. Applications from Ontario high school students for the 2004-2005 academic year jumped 30 per cent, while applications from outside Ontario, mature students and international students jumped by 175 per cent.


The University of Ontario Institute of Technology will generate an estimated $1.09 billion in personal income between now and 2011 through construction, capital projects, employment, and other operating expenditures. Most of the income will be spent locally on housing, taxes, and goods and services.


The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is the province´s only laptop-based university. Every student uses a current model IBM laptop to access course materials, conduct research, make presentations and communicate with faculty.


International students make up more than five per cent of the university´s student body, coming from over 30 countries, including Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea and the United States.


UOIT uses one of the world´s largest geothermal well fields to help heat and cool its buildings. Made up of 384 holes drilled 213 metres (700 feet) into the ground, the sophisticated system takes advantage of the earth´s relatively constant temperature to provide a stable, low-maintenance and efficient energy source.


UOIT guarantees a residence space to all qualified first-year students. Rooms and suites in our Simcoe Village and South Village residences offer amazing amenities and accommodation for over 1,300 students.


The solar car racing team is one of UOIT´s newest clubs. The university offers a wide range of student activities and a full selection of athletic facilities, including our year-round, professional-grade Campus Tennis Centre.


The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is a member of SHARCNET, one of the world´s most powerful high-performance computing consortia. High-performance computing, sometimes called supercomputing, allows scientists to use extremely powerful computers to accelerate the pace of their research.


UOIT´s brand new campus library features space for 160,000 volumes on four floors. The library´s rotunda includes a ground-floor caf? and a two-storey reading room, complete with a fireplace.
