Do you agree?

It does have the highest admission standards in Ontario for undergraduate programs. However, the graduate school is highly over-rated.

I can´t believe a Queens MBA is so highly regarded especially when most of the program is conducted using video-conferencing.

queen´s sets their cut-off a few a little higher than everyone else and they think their a great university. please. queen´s hasn´t done shit for the 100+ years they´ve been around.

I constantly hear Queen´s students claim how hard it is at Queen´s compared to other "easier" universities. If that is true, then why is it that Queen´s engineering school has a 92 percent graduation rate? At Ryerson, a supposedly "easier" engineering school, graduation rate is only 60 percent. In fact, Queen´s graduation rate rarely drops below 90 percent in recent years while Ryerson reported as low as 50 percent graduation rate. For engineering at least, the data seems to indicate it is much harder to get a Ryerson degree than a Queen´s degree. Does the "Queen´s is hard" idea have merit or is it just hype?

maybe because Ryerson accepts everyone with a 70%+ average and queens only excepts those with at least 80?

The cohort in UofT class had 76 percent for the same tracking period in which Queen´s rate was 92 percent. The weighted average for whole of Ontario ranged from 72 to 78 percent for the period between 1991 to 2003.

Rye-hi has a low graduation rate because it accepts everyone and everything.

Queen´s just accepts students with a high 80s ave.

This can explain why Queen´s graudation rate is higher than Rye-hi and infer that Rye-hi engineering degree is not better than Queen´s.

Harvard graduation rate > Lakehead
So Lakehead´s degree is better?? LOL

"queen?s sets their cut-off a few a little higher than everyone else and they think their a great university. please. queen?s hasn?t done shit for the 100+ years they?ve been around."

so true.

First of all, the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) does not set the cirriculum standard for Harvard so your comparison with Harvard is irrelevant. The CEAB however, does set a common standard for Ryerson, UofT and Queen´s for which degree completion rates were given.

Ryerson´s engineering school´s incoming avgerage is probably in the mid to high 70´s. In some years, close to one half of Ryerson´s students don´t get a degree. The difference in incoming grades between a Ryerson engineerng student and one at Queen´s is not very significant and probably amount to less than 10%. Yet Queen´s had almost double the degree completion rate as Ryerson!!!

UofT´s engineering incoming averages are very similar to Queen´s but, a significantly lower proportion of UofT students get degrees compared to Queen´s. Similar comparisons can be drawn with other Ontario engineering schools for which data is provided here:
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/postsec/kpi/pdfs/engrgrad.pdf

The numbers speak for themselves. When a Queen´s engineering student tells you it is harder at Queen´ than at "Rye-Hi", you know he´s full of bullshit! Virtually every Queen´s engineering student (90+%) get a degree. How hard can it be???

I am not suggesting there is a link between the graduation data and the relative quality between programs. All I´m suggesting is that the often encountered claim that "Queen´s is harder", is not supported by the facts.

An average Queen´s student would shit his pants if he had to take on the level of difficulty that is UofT engineering.
