Again, it?s the same argument over again
you talk about sources, yet where?s the proof that McGill is underfunded? Where?s the proof that the "Harvard of the North" title is a marketing scheme?

McGill is far and wide the best university in Canada, UofT likes to argue about how it produces the most research next to Harvard, yet it has almost twice the amount of students and faculty than McGill. And you want to talk about research?

http://www.researchinfosource.com/RUY/2005/ResearchUniversityofYearTableFinal.pdf

Research University of the Year: McGill (highest research intensity)

But wait, your thomson ranking is more credible right? It?s the gold standard correct? haha oh please. And now the other rankings are sketchy? THES, Forbes, Research Infosource, Financial Times are sketchy?? Oh God, stop with your freaking excuses, all you UofT fanboys are the same.

McGill is #1, UofT #2. DEAL WITH IT.

-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------

You are on crack if you think McGill can compare to UofT in terms of research. And Where is UBC on that list? The methodology used is flawed, man.

Look at their website! It´s very unprofessional and I gaurantee know one even knows who they are. Thompson Corporation however is well known and well respected for this type of work.

As for Forbes, I bet you UofT didn´t provide them with any information for that ranking because how else do you explain them being totally left out while in the Financial Times they are 2nd in Canada and 24th in the World? By the way, Financial Times trumps Forbes any day of the week. lol. why did you bring up the FT? McGill did pretty poorly in that ranking.

As for THES,

The criteria was weighted in such a way that it allowed the UK universities to rank higher. Period.

Now to me, the only thing which really makes a ´good´ University from those criteria are the citations/faculty. This is an indicator on how good the research coming out of your University is. Oxford and Cambridge score an abismal 15 and 16 respectively out of 100. McGill scores a wopping 8 out of 100. UofT at least gets a 22. UBC a 17. Places like Oxford, Cambridge and yes McGill do well in this type of ranking because reputation is a huge part of the scoring. When you look at the actual productivity of these Universities they are seriously lacking compared to the ´real´ top Universities like Harvard and CalTech.

Underfunded link:

It´s common knowledge.

LOL Here comes the excuses!!

What did I say in the previous post. The UofT fanboy now tries to shoot down the credibility of one of Canada´s top consulting firms and implies that his thomson study is the "gold standard" haha And more bias: he says that the only category in the THES ranking that matters is the one that UofT beats McGill in! And it´s a conspiracy right? It´s designed to make the UK universities look better when in reality, the US universities dominate the rankings. This is a joke, you want proof and when it is provided, you bring in your bias and shoot down the credibility of the source and affirm that your sources are better. What´s the point of arguing against this fanboy?

Classic:
"Look at their website! It?s very unprofessional and I gaurantee know one even knows who they are. Thompson Corporation however is well known and well respected for this type of work. "

i.e. Thomson is the gold-standard

"As for Forbes, I bet you UofT didn?t provide them with any information for that ranking because how else do you explain them being totally left out while in the Financial Times they are 2nd in Canada and 24th in the World? By the way, Financial Times trumps Forbes any day of the week. lol. why did you bring up the FT? McGill did pretty poorly in that ranking. "

i.e. FT is the gold standard(even though UofT gets its ass kicked by Schulich), and i mentioned FT because you said that the "other" rankings are sketchy.

First of all, it has nothing to do with excuses. I am providing an argument which you don´t seem to understand.

When looking at world rankings you need to be critical. Look at the methodology used. Isn´t research/faculty the mark of a great University? I mean the goal of a University is to be productive, not ride on an old reputation.

Now, I´m not a business expert but isn´t the FT the most widely used source for world business news? And you have to admit it is strange that like every business school in Canada was included on that list except for Rotman. I´m not saying Rotman is the best, but come on, you know their top tier. BTW, Schulich is a wicked school. Who cares if they beat UofT or any other Canadian University?

IT IS making up excuses when someone brings credible sources and for some reason, they are always shot down for the benefit of the school you support. It IS making up excuses when not only are these sources shot down, but the sources that benefit the school you support are established by yourself as the "gold standard".THES and Research Infosource aren´t studies done by my 10-year brother. You even go as far as to say that a certain category in a ranking that does not favour your school is the "gold standard" as to, again, benefit your school. Therefore, any attempt at arguing with you is pointless since any sources I bring up are apparently not credible while yours are. It has nothing to do with understanding your simplistic "arguments".

And please stop the "old reputation" crap because i´m tired of UofT fanboys whining about how their school gets no respect because they don´t have the "old reputation" McGill possesses.

Well, believe it or not some sources are more credible than others. Also, certain methodologies are seriously flawed. This is reality. And if we want to have an accurate account of how things really are, these things need to be considered.

Oh of course, but don´t forget that ALL studies including YOUR sources are flawed as well. That indicates bias.

*failing to realize this indicates bias.

I´m not sure where you got this from. I never complained about UofT not having the old reputation McGill has. UofT has its own long and distinguished reputation.

Honestly, dude, how long are we going to argue who is better?

We should call a truce and admit that both schools are leaders and just be proud that we can be a part of it.

P.S. - Don´t misinterpret what I am saying as "giving up", because I can continue this.

Truce. And I do, in fact, acknowledge UofT as a leading school along with McGill and UBC.

Btw, I don´t view it as giving up, no one benefits from "winning" a war on an anonymous forum.
