Well, this ranking is absolutely bullshit! It is commonly cited just because it comes first when you write university ranking in google.

Noone in academic circles trusts a ranking done by an unknown Chinese University!!

If you want to have world ranking, Times Higher Education is by far the most prestigious one.

No real academician recognizes this list, which is prepared by some Asian university!

Both rankings are subject to criticism. However, everyone will agree that Harvard is # 1. Different methodologies will yeild different results - and whos to say that your method is the most accurate assessment?

Also, ts interesting that the Times ranked McGill above of Columbia University - an ivey league school. While other rankings will place UofT ahead of McGill. Because of this, I´d say McGill and UofT are truly competitors with top tier schools in the US and the world.

McGill is way below Columbia, definitely not in the same league.

I doubt anyone in Canada with full scholorship would choose McGill over Columbia.

It´s like comparing Montreal vs New York. That´s how ridiculous your comparison is.

I rather go to NYU than McGill.

This ranking was prepared and compiled by China Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Do you believe and rely on it?

Well, ranking a college above another college does not mean that you would necessarily want to go to the high ranked one. McGill ranks above Columbia. And as an English guy, I would choose McGill over Columbia. However, I am sure many Canadians would choose Columbia, just because it is in the US, and because they would rather go to a different country.

Also, I don´t buy into that Chinese ranking.

It doesn´t matter what you guys think about the ranking...

Top universities themselves cite the Shanghai Jiaotong University rankings...and this is what matters.

I know the University of California has cited its ranking done by Shanghai Jiaotong...one of the premier public universities in the world.

Just because your university does shitty in the rankings doesn´t mean that it is no valid. Times did indeed rank McGill ahead of Columbia, not the chinese study. Im pretty sure the chinese one ranked Columbia like #8 in the world.

You people should be proud UofT and McGill are ranked up there with the best schools in the world, not bitter.
