Yes, even though the school is controlled by Jews, there is alot of hatred towards Jews and Israel at york. First of all, the muslim student association is very powerful at YOrk and their members openly hate jew profs and jew students. My cousin (a jewish israeli) went to york last year as part of an exchange between York and Tel aviv University and the first encounter he had with a York student was not exactly pleasant. He was called a murdering SOB by a palestinian student.

YOuve been warned. You should also be aware of the fact that York is on the Bnai Brith watchlist!

HOLY F*CKING BULLSHIT!!!!

I attend York and that´s absolute hogwash! There are sizable numbers of both Jews and Muslims at York and there are certainly no problems occurring on campus. If anything, Jewish students have it better - they get their holidays off while Muslims have to petition the prof.

I don´t know anything at all about Concordia and honest to god couldn´t care less. But DO NOT drag York into this. Going by the posts on this site for the last month York is as peaceful as mother f*cking Switzerland compared to Concordia and wherever the Concordia bashers go.

Concordia students grow up! Nobody believes you and you look like retards!

York U suspends Hillel
Posted On 03/25/04
By: David Horowitz

TORONTO ? As this edition of the Tribune went to press, York University?s administration has decided to suspend the club privileges of the Jewish student group Hillel following its counter demonstration against the virulent anti-Israel event organized by the Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) last Tuesday afternoon.

Following the anti-Israel event by SPHR, four Jewish students were reportedly assaulted. The matter is currently under investigation by the authorities.

At the protest itself, members from SPHR portrayed themselves as Israeli soldiers by dressing in green military fatigues and wearing provocative signs reading ?Born to Kill,? while they staged mock arrests. Jewish students countered with songs of joy such as ?Am Yisrael Chai.? These students also displayed signs reading ?Checkpoints Save Lives? and showcased photos of Israelis injured in suicide attacks. They set up a makeshift graveyard to display the tombstones of Israelis and of other nationalities murdered in previous suicide attacks.

Third year York University student Yaakov Roth told the Tribune that many Jewish students make it a priority to take a stand against those who wish to poison the campus environment with their misinformation. ?We simply will not allow this anti-Israel vitriol to permeate the university unchallenged. The portrayal of the checkpoints by anti-Israel groups fails to point out how security measures such as checkpoints and the anti-terror fence are meant to protect the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish populations of Israel from suicide attacks. Checkpoints save lives, and we are here to remind York students of that fact.?

Nancy White, Director of Media Relations for York University told the Tribune last week that both Hillel and SPHR would be reprimanded for violating university regulations which stipulates that all protests must take place outside the university.

According to White, both groups disobeyed orders by protesting inside the university instead of remaining outside. She made no distinction between the two groups, even though it was the anti-Israel demonstration that disobeyed university regulations by setting up its ?checkpoint? inside Vari Hall. The Hillel-sponsored event moved inside only in response, but the Jewish student group is now being branded by the university administration as having escalated the situation.

In a Hillel@York press release issued on March 22, Talia Klein, Director of Hillel at York said: ?We are confused and hurt by the university?s actions... we have always maintained a close and mutually beneficial working relationship with university officials.?

Seth Winberg, Vice President of the group, further commented that ?the university has turned a blind eye to dozens of illegal and unauthorized rallies by opposing groups. It is only when Hillel members chose to begin defending themselves that the university decided to punish us.?

Coming on the heels of this recent incident at York, Hillel along with Jewish students from York, McMaster, Ryerson, the University of Toronto and CHAT gathered two days later to hold the first ever ?Jewish Unity Rally? in response to the surge in anti-Israel and antisemitic incidents occurring on campuses across Canada. As the crowd rallied, York security monitored the area for any disturbances, while university student leaders along with members of the community addressed participants on how hatred of Jews and of Israel continues to thrive in Canadian society.

York Centre M.P. Art Eggleton posed the question, ?If Jews are not safe in Canada, where will they be safe? ...Indeed here at York, assaults on Jewish students is a reality.? Eggleton cited the 2003 annual Audit on Antisemitic Incidents issued recently by B?nai Brith?s League for Human Rights. He noted that ?there is a disturbing increase of 27% in the number of antisemitic incidents that took place in 2003 over the previous year.?

Josh Cooper, Conservative M.P. Candidate for Thornhill and Marty Lockshin, Director of the Centre for Jewish Studies at York University, also spoke about the dangers of antisemitism in Canadian society.

Nancy White told The Tribune that there is ?no room for racism? at York, but did not state how the university was going to go about dealing with what is clearly a highly volatile atmosphere on campus.
