Subject: What kind of averages guarantee you admission...

Can someone who is in Graduate studies in Economics tell me what kind of averages can guarantee you admission? I know the cut off averages are 3.0 out of 4 (B) to 3.2 out of 4 (B+), but was wondering what I would need at least to be guaranteed admission. Here are my choices below.

(1) Dalhousie University
(2) University of Ottawa
(3) University of Alberta
(4) McGill University
(5) University of Victoria

if given the choice, i would pick McGill out of those you have listed. I would add UofT to that list too.

I would definetly not add U of T for Graduate studies in Economics. Add york, no way does U of T´s Economics compare to York.

The poster may have chosen his schools carefully and excluded the top schools on purpose... he´s looking for "guaranteed" admission (maybe he should´ve put "more likely" admission since nothing´s guaranteed).

Hey original poster - this board is anonymous, why don´t you just post your GPA and school and ask if we think it´s good enough?

Well I´m thinking either McGill, Ottawa U or Dalhousie because their Graduate studies in Economics aren´t the top ones, so it might be easier to get, unlike in Toronto or Concordia where I´ve heard it´s pretty competitive.

I´m in 3rd year in Ottawa U. I don´t know how to calculate it into 4.0, ours is out of 10. My average is a B+ (75-79%)

Yeah, it is fairly hard to get into ConU graduate programs in economics. I think the graduate program at ConU is very demanding. Ive seen the curriculum and the books they use for some of these courses and its crazy. You need a strong background in maths to do well in the program. By the way, the reputation of Concordia is not even comparable to that of UofT, but rest assure that even if Mcgill is not that reputable in economics, the Mcgill name can carry you a long way. You better get your GPA up to at least 3.4 to be assured admission to Mcgill. Good luck.
