Subject: add common-law partner to application
Anybody has experience on the issue of adding spouse/common-law to a submitted SW immigration application?

I submitted the application on April 2004 with single status. Now I have a common-law partner and wondering if I should report to cic and update my application.

1. If I should do so, what extra forms should I fill out? Do I have to send an entire new set of forms or just send my partner´s forms and clarify it CIC?
2. Will it delay my current processing time? (although I haven´t heard from cic for a long time).

Help and advice needed! Thx a lot.

You MUST notify CIC of your new status otherwise you could be denied PR if you werent up front with them. I would check your guide and see if there´s anything in there.

otherwise, maybe someone will have some insight, but I´d call the office you applied to i´m sure they can direct you to the appropriate forms.

goodluck!

Jon, you need to contact CIC, I know that you can apply for a Common Law spouse, but I don´t know if you must add that person to your application.

Interesting situation:
1) is a common-law-partner part of the family class who must be examined before you are granted PR status? If they are not part of the family class then you can continue your application and not have to add your partner.
2) if your partner becomes common-law partner becomes your legal spouse then you must add that person to your application.

If you chose not to add your partner and proceed as normally, once you get your PR status and after you arrive in Canada you can go back and get married and sponsor your partner from outside Canada.
