(in reply to: scholarships for permanent residents) You can get scholarship based on financial need. I got a tuition bursary last year quite easily; all universities and colleges have bursaries. With PR you get to pay ? of what international students pay and you have a larger bursary/scholarship pool to choose from.
Surprisingly, a lot of students do not apply for bursaries as they assume they will not get it. If you think you need it and met the qualifications on the application forms apply for it.
Then there is the OSAP. Yes, it will SAP your money once you are finished school, for 10 years or so. If you qualify, oops sorry I am forgetting that not everyone is in Ontario and may not know what OSAP is; Ontario Student Assistance Program. Once you qualify for OSAP you don´t necessarily have to take the loan you can use the fact that you got the loan to apply other grants. In the 90s the federal govt had the Millennium Scholarship where they gave students in receipt of OSAP $3-3.5k, I don´t know if the scholarship still exists or if they have changed the name.
If you need free money for school the best bet is to talk to the financial aid office at the university or college that you want to attend they will have a lot of information.
