Subject: Help me! Contract vs. Reference Letter
  Hello all,

I´d appreciate it if you can help me with the following question. I do not have a contract for my old job but I am asking my employer to write a reference letter for me. What information do I need to include in this letter so that it makes up for the missing contract as well? Is there a sample reference letter that I can refer to?

Also, I´ve worked for the same employer for two summers. So do I need two letters of reference or is one enough?

Thank you very much!!

The reference letter must mention your job title, salary paid, duration of employment and your main responsibilities. The reference letter should be on the companie´s official letter head and if possible attach with this letter the business card of the person who is writing the reference letter.

No need to get two reference letters fro the comany you worked for two summers. Just ask the person writing the letter to mention it clearly on the letter.

Sometimes the employers may not be willing to give out letters with details.

That is OK. You contract letter with your designation is fine. Explain in your own words in an accompaying sheer as to what you did.

One letter for two summer is OK, but ask them to be specific about the dates.

For instance requiring reference letter, you need responsive people that can confirm that you worked there, and your title. Employment refrence letter, structure should be like that, " Name and address, date, Salutation (´To whom it may concern´, or To CIC), Confirm dates, job title(s) capacity, and salary, Briefly explain the responsibilities and Offer to provide more information if required" Moreover, one letter should be good enough.
Its look like I have just encoded Kenny posting:)
