Subject: help in TRV and Spousal
  Hi All

I am in the process of sponsoring my wife, her application is at the stage of security check, but the security check is taking for ever (we applied on the 1st of May 2005 - normal processing time for that visa post is 4 mnth) is it possible that her application for TRV will be approved while waiting for the security check to finish?

My wife resided in one country since her 18th birthday, but for some unknown reason the visa post is doing a security check in all the countries she resided in before her 18th B-Day.

Thanks for your suggestions and replies.

I would not be hopeful for a TRV. they will simply tell you to wait for your approval. Their reason... it would be highly doubtful your wife would leave Canada if your PR application was rejected.

would they be right?

Fred,

Damascus Visa office has started processing my spouse´s application in May 2005. I faxed them in September to inquire about the status of the application they informed me that they are conducting a Background check . We haven´t heard back from them until now. It´s frustrating I know but all we can do is wait.Let us know how your case progress.

Thanks

Thanks Sharon and Tangerine.

Tangerine, you must be very lucky for you to get a reply to your fax. We did fax them several times but no sign of life whatsoever. I had to use my MP to get a status update.

Did your spouse resided in only one country? or like in my case? Please share your experience.

Thanks

Fred,

My wife resided in two countries and that explains the slow processing .Did your MP give you a hint on how long the process should take more?

Tangerine

The MP helped in sending an inquiry, the MP cannot do anything if the file is going through security check, it is not in the hands of the Embassy or the MP, it is in the hands of the Canadian security services.

As for how long it is gonna take, the MP was not able to give a timeline.

Please keep on sharing your experience on this forum, at least this is what I am going to do.

Thanks

Fred,

I think that it´s up to the visa officer to decide how detailed he/she wants the background to be .They claim that it´s out of their control but honestly I don´t believe that.Anyway, I ´ll keep you updated about the case and thanks for sharing your info.
