Subject: Result- Medical Check Up
  Sir/Maam,

I am from Malaysia and I came to Canada 6 months go under tourist visa. I have a partner here and extend my visa for another 6 months. I have required to do medical- check up for that. I have been told that the result is confidential.
I would like to know the result/outcome of my medical result as for my RIGHT. I think I am entitled to know for my well-being as a person not only for the purpose of extending my visa. Why Immigration of Canada has the ?silence? policy like this?
Just curious...
Thanks,
D

Didie,

Whereas the results are not shown to applicant, you may ask a copy of findings from the clinic. Most clinics will make a copy available (not the originals which are sent to Canadian authorities).

Now, that may also be specific to clinics, they are not "obliged" to make results available to you. This is clearly mentioned on the medical forms. So technically you cannot demand results, however you can results a copy of finidings.

Now if there were anything adverse on your findings I´m sure the clinic keeping the best interest of the patient would have contacted you to begin treatment as soon as possible.

The delay is simply because of the number of cases in line. So give it some time, all will be fine. It does take at least 5-7 weeks for medicals to be sent and analyzed.

Take care,

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for the reply, Starwars. I really appreciate your explaination. I will try to ask the clinic in Toronto where I did my medical. However, I doubt it because the whole stuff there was not that helpful/unfriendly. Maybe they thought I am just another immigrant etc. The lady kept the conversation short, brief and cold. I am kind of hanging here. I called up Vegreville office and the same response. Oh well..

Yes, true Malaysia is part of the Commonwealth countries. 20 years ago Canada was the 1st choice among Malaysians to immigrate. However, things are really different now. If you are a tourist/visitor (like me) you still will be labelled as immigrant in the eye of the people here especially by custom/immigration officers. All I want is to be with my partner. To make it worst especially after September 11, Malaysians are having difficulties to travel especially to US, Australia, UK etc. All Malaysians is required to get a visa before entering Canada. Europe is much easier. I have done an interview/background checked in my country before I came here. Luckily, the officer at the Canadian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur were friendly and extremely helpful. She even gave me tips how to face the immigration at the airport.

Next, I will try to get a student visa. I would love to study here so that I have something to do. Luckily I have a partner who is understanding and helpful. However, my partner is not really familiar with some of the immigration issues and procedures here. The question now is what shall I study? I already have a Degree in Marketing and Commerce from the UK university. I have done my IELTS a long time ago. I have read a lot of forum postings and I am shocked to know that many immigrants have to deal with discrimination issues especially when applying for a job. Kind of bothering me a little bit to know even someone with PHD from India/ Pakistan has to work as a janitor. I am not sure how far the truth is. I would appreciate if someone could share views on this.
Thanks.

I don´t know which medical form you had to do but the one I had stated in that it was the property of CIC and I would not get it. My form made it very clear that I had no right to the information attained by the medical.

I know that doesn´t help you.

I think it is simply due to administrative reasons, if every applicant wanted a copy of their results it would add a big burden to CIC. They don´t get any money from the medical exam, the doctors /hospital get all the money. I think it´s just easier to say it´s confidential than go on a big blurb about how it would drain manpower from other areas where it is needed.

That´s my theory, take it or leave it.

Didie, I don´t think people with good networking and people skills work as a janitor for very long.

Stat´s canada had an article from 2004, that I can´t find now, it said that after 2 years 80% of SW´s said they were satisfied with their work situation.

Well, to be honest it is not my intention here to question/challenge the authority or status quo. I quite understand now with all the procedures of the immigration and the government wish for the visitors. As for my medical check up, well I had better leave it as the way it is. Period!

However, I could not help thinking about the discrimination against the immigrants (not in this forum). Initially, like any other people my expectation kind of high. On the contrary, I do not want to fall into a trap of thinking that just because someone has a degree, Canadians would welcome us gladly. Degree means nothing unless you have skills and experience. Sometimes, I think it is not about what you know..it is about who you know too. True! good networking and skills are important. Surely, the government impose some kind of ´protectionism´ to protect its own people. Even some Canadians are complaining about the job market/situation. I am sure if a Canadian try to work in Malaysia, surely they wont get a job there, unless they got invite by companies. I guess the government wish the immigrants to come to Canada to work but only if there is a shortage on the specific jobs and areas.
thanks for sharing the view...keep posting.... :)
