Tricky question - I am a non-permanent resident of canada but married a canadian in canada. Now enter a progress in the relationship namely buying a house. As i am unable to work here being a non-permanent resident would i still be able to obtain a 1/2 split of property? If i was able to stay on would another country be able to get its dirty mits on my half in the event of me going bankrupt?
Any thoughts/answers?

(in reply to: Lawyers) Civil rights apply to all irrespective of your status in the country.
So as long as you are in Canada, you have same "civil" rights, not resident or citizenship charter rights.
